I thought I would do a bit of a different post today and discuss why I started this blog. While gandering the web I found this idea on the Helene in Between blog who wrote a specific post about ideas for lifestyle bloggers, which I loved and I love when bloggers help other bloggers! I thought I would take you through a bit of a story of why I started this blog.

I started this blog when I was 18, I am now 23. For a long while I stopped blogging until last October when I started my new running plan. I found that I actually liked writing about running because frankly a lot of running posts just aren’t my cup of tea. Now back to the origins. When I started thegordonedit (formerly saywahnow) I started at a place of being lost in my first year of uni and essentially wanting and needing a creative outlet. At first this blog was a bit personal, but again I was lacking in posts that told the truth about university, like how it sucks at first and you might feel lost and not make friends quickly, and that made me sad so I started my own blog about it. While quite the niche market, I basically just wrote some feminists rants and about body image (which I want to start foraying into again) but many of those posts are private now because at the time I wasn’t as educated on such things as I am now. As an aside, when I began saywahnow I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life and that has definitely changed as I now have a more definitive idea, but I truly have been enjoying creating and writing content for people to enjoy (or not) and am excited to continue doing this alongside another job.

However, this blog stopped for awhile until last October and I really got into it in September of 2017. In September I set myself a schedule to post once a week and actually start taking good photos. Also, I decided I wanted to branch out into the beauty blogging world because beauty is something that I love so much and wanted to share it with people. This blog has become a creative outlet from school and work. While my work has greatly improved the way I run this blog, this blog is a place for happiness and humour for people of all walks of life to come and read about fitness and beauty  and general lifestyle. I also was encouraged by my super cool roommate (pls follow her insta short.fuse it is SO AMAZING if you don’t follow her you are missing out) who suggested I make my instagram public to reach a larger audience which was a big decision for me but I’m really glad I did it. It has been such a good decision, despite the inevitable creepers that lurk on instagram I have been able to utilize stories (which I’m constantly trying to get better at) and share my blog to a wide audience who actually appreciate the content.

I am still trying to figure out this ins and outs of blogging, while I am pretty well versed in the WordPress I still want to make an email list and improve my SEO and all that behind the scenes jazz. I started this blog because it was something I needed at the time and now it has blossomed into something that I love doing, you know for science. I have found that blogging more consistently has given me a creative outlet and ways to innovate my existing makeup collection as well as gives me the chance to explore beauty and write about it while applying the knowledge I’ve learned in university. I also would love to foray into more educated and thought pieces about the fitness and beauty world now that I feel I am in a place to write from a more expanded perspective then I had when I began this blogging journey.

The name change. So when I bought my domain I was trying to think of a name that better fit my current content. Since I shifted from my original more political based content, I wanted something that was all encompassing. The name came to me in the shower and it was surprisingly not in use on WordPress or Instagram or Twitter so I knew it was meant to be!

I thought this post was a great idea because I often wonder what brings people to start a blog and I think its always interesting to find out a little bit of back story. If you have a blog feel free to write a post as well!

  1. [ Smiles ] A name change is good; it helps to get rid of the old baggage.

I do hope that your new Top Level Domain brings you luck.

And, I wish you all the best with your blogging endeavours!

  2. It is so refreshing that bloggers actually write down their thoughts behind their idea of a blog or the name of the blog. I did the same for my #BlogTober series as well. 🙂
