New in makeup

Me at the beginning of the year: I’m only going to do curated hauls. Also me: walks into the drugstore two times this month and buys makeup each time. Fam, I wanted to be a good soul and not buy drugstore makeup or at least as much but DAMN I can’t resist a new launch. I bought some goodies this month in the makeup department (and a skincare haul and reviews coming soon). I wanted to share it with you (to somewhat?!) justify this spending…also hauls on my blog do quite well and frankly, I also like reading them!

I am on the hunt for the best drugstore glowy base product and when I saw that the L’oreal glotion was on sale at shoppers I “had to” buy it. Curse the optimum points system. I really like this so far and if fairs well under (most) bb creams and foundations. The next glowy product I bought was the new Annabelle illuminating hydrating base, this smells like a fresh day on the beach (it is Seabreeze scented according to the package) so I couldn’t resist. Speaking of base products I also got the Maybelline BB Cream and the Nude by Nature BB cream. I am searching for the perfect sheer base for my life, and these two are so far okay…further reviews to come. I also got two concealers, I will add both to my concealer round up and I haven’t heard much about the Revlon Candid Concealer.  A dedicated review to come! I also went out of town earlier this month of, as usual, hit up the body shop. I got their cushion foundation because it is the same family as my favorite foundation the fresh nude. Again, a review to come. I also did a wishtrend order (no duties Canadian friends) and was curious about the Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream. It’s a different kind of product and I will do a review on this eventually!

I also bought the new Covergirl Active foundation. I have only tried this once but surprisingly I did really like it. I want to test it more and I’ll return with a review. I also picked up a few concealers for my roundup, the L’Oreal True Match, and the Revlon Candid Concealer. I also did a wee bit of a Colourpop order. I got one pressed eyeshadow, a lip liner and the concealer, the new mascara and the Jelly Much eyeshadow. I really like all of the items, except the concealer. I am still testing it but thus far, while an amazing price I’m not as enthralled with it as I thought I would be!

Speaking of eye products I got another item from Annabelle. I spotted their new bouncy line at the store and couldn’t resist getting on of their eyeshadows, in surprise surprise a bronzy shade.  I also got the Maybelline snapscara (which I forgot to take a photo of) purely because I heard the full coverage gals talking about it and wanted to try it, that and I will include it in my drugstore mascara roundup. I also bought the Maybelline city bronzer in 200, I wasn’t sure if I should 100 to 200 but the medium shade seemed to have the look I wanted. This purchase has no justification – I was completely influenced by Mariah Leonard. I also, despite not being a liquid lipstick lover, got one of the Maybelline super stay matte ink liquid lipsticks. Maybelline also came out with a made for all lipstick line so I got the shade spice for me.

I think what we can all learn from this is I can’t set foot in shoppers without at least gandering the makeup aisle. While last year at this time I feel like bought way more, for February I’m hopping back on the thoughtful purchase train and am going to try to buy things just from my list of brands I want to try. Wish me luck folks.

Beauty and Skincare Haul

Alas, recently I acquired a job and to celebrate I may have purchased a few things (and possibly participated in the Sephora VIB sale which will be come later). But I visited my brother and we did a bit of shopping so I want to run through some of that stuff and some of the new drugstore bits I’ve collected over October. I will update you in a months time on these products!

Eyes and Lips

Eye products

Revlon Lip pluming creme

I have been on the hunt for a drugstore mascara that gives me the same quality lashes as the Lancome Monsieur big. I bought the L’oreal Voluminous in Waterproof (that was an accident but I used a oil cleanser so that isn’t a problem). I also bought an old favourite the Maybelline colour tattoo bad to the bronze. I resisted buying this again and have hunted for dupes from other drugstore brands but can’t seem to find one. This is such a simple easy shade to use and have around so I’m glad to have it back in my life. I also  bought one lippie (I was attempting to exercise self restraint) but I saw Estee Lalonde use this on her channel so I bought it in 510 Nude Honey.  It is the perfect (I know I say this a lot) but it really is the perfect my lips but better colour. I really like this so far but will update in a month.

Rimmel Setting Spray

The body shop concealer

I bought the new Maybelline Super Stay Multi Use foundation stick and plan on reviewing it sometime this month. As another base product (on sale for $11, I got the Sephora collection skin tint. I have been curious about the sephora collection and would like to try a few more things from them. I also wanted to get a new potted concealer and have been eyeing the body shop one for awhile. I plan to use this more on days I work versus other makeup days. I also bought the Rimmel Fix and Go setting spray which I tried yesterday and it’s amazing so far! I don’t want to give my full thoughts yet but will update in a month.

Skincare and Body Care

The body shop body butters

Body Butters

When I saw the little body butter set in The Body Shop I just couldn’t resist the little tree shaped box with the fun holiday scents. I love the peppermint one and wouldn’t mind a full size of this before the holiday scents leave! I also bought two skincare bits from Joe Fresh. I am running out of my Thayers toner and while I will repurchase that I haven’t tried any Joe Fresh Skincare and this was on sale so I bought it. I also bought the eye cream because it was on sale for $9.44 which is a great deal for an eye cream!

Blune Day 17: A Wee Drugstore Haul

Friends, I did a thing and it involves makeup, body care and superstore aka I went to get toothpaste and this happened. The body care items I got earlier this month at shoppers, I basically keep them in business. The makeup stems from the fact that I needed toothpaste. I bought the Toms of Maine whole care toothpaste because it’s my favourite cruelty free toothpaste! I bought a few bits the other weekend just for some testing purposes and also as a foundation backup for my graduation day (which I didn’t end up wearing, makeup to come in a post later this week).

Tom's whole care toothpaste

I was super curious about the Joe Fresh neutrals palette and alas broke down and made it my fourth palette of the year! I know it’s an odd choice, but I have been into super light washes of colour on the lids. I love all the shades and this also seems like it’s the perfect travel palette size!

I also picked up the wet ‘n’ wild photofocus foundation, I should say I don’t wear foundation everyday yet I own quite a few. I kept hearing about this on Full Coverage podcast and I was curious. It is great. But it smells like paint, which isn’t a surprise because it was only $7 but it is easily sheered out and has great coverage. I recommend moisturizing well beforehand to because it has the tendency to cling to dry patches

Essence Luminizing Primer, Joe Fresh Eyeshadow palette, Wet n Wild photo focus foundation

The Essence primer Fresh and Fit glow pore minimizing primer. That is a mouthful.  Okay this was an impulse purchase. I have never seen this before and decided to try it out, it was only $5.99 which is kind of suspect ingredient wise but so far it’s okay! I don’t notice a noticeable radiance. The search for a cruelty free glowy base continues! I’ll use this up but it’s nothing super exciting!

The scrub of your Life and Nivea in Shower body lotion

Nivea in shower body lotion

I also got two body care items which is always fun! I got the Soap and Glory scrub of your life body exfoliator and the Nivea in shower body lotion. I was curious about both because it’s the summer and I really didn’t feel like putting on cream after the shower because my apartment is very sweaty. Honestly i think it works! I have been noticing my skin is softer and more hydrated! I enjoy the convenience of having it the shower and not having to do anything after. The Soap and Glory exfoliator is great, but its not Lush exfoliator both in scent and in effectiveness. I like it, I am going to use it on the daily of course, and its a beautiful not too artificial scent. If you are looking for something that smells summery and is a good exfoliator for the summer this could be a good one for you!
