How I achieve Glowing Skin

I don’t think I have a signature, but I think most people would say my claim to fame is my dewy skin. Dewy skin is where I live and breathe my daily life. Highlighter, give it to me, dewy primer, yes please, super hydrating moisturizer, hello yes I’d like that too. I thought I would do a dedicated post about how I achieve the glowing skin that I seem to put out into the world.

The prep

Cleansing, spray toner, and moisturizer. I don’t clean my skin with a cleanser in the morning but I do wipe it off with a cloth then use a lovely spray toner whichever one is in my rotation, and then about four pumps of my Clinique moisturizer followed by my eye cream. I find the biggest part of keeping my skin glowy is the night time skincare routine that I have. Now, by no means is this current routine THE routine but it’s certainly a good one. I cleanse, tone, serum, and hydrate. Sometimes I throw in oil, or the Sunday Riley good genes serum at my night time routine but I’ve really been simplifying. In the morning, I cleanse and moisturize and serum. I find that the better you skin prep is, night and day, the more naturally glowy your skin is going to be under makeup.

The makeup

I like to begin with a hydrating primer or the Glamglow nude glow moisturizer. I recently purchased the Too Face Hangover Rx primer and have been loving it so far. I then put on a liquid highlighter, the Anastasia one or my Perricone MD No Highlighter highlighter, and proceed to do either spot concealer or a lightweight foundation or BB Cream. Currently, I’m loving the Klairs supple illuminating cream. It has a slight tint and its quite easy to blend in. I then move onto to bronzer, either matte or shimmer as I find that it doesn’t really matter, as long as your other base products are dewyer. I then head to a powder highlighter or a cream highlighter (sometimes both). I find the key for a true dew is to get a highlighter that is similar to your skin tone. I find a pinky champagne highlighter or a clearer glossy highlighter (think Nudestix Illuminaughty) creates that lit from within look. I find that instead of using a foundation, while you can get a glowy finish from one, I spot conceal so let my skin shine through.

For blush, I look for something that isn’t obviously dewy, but gives a good sheen to the cheeks. I prefer creams for this, but there are powders I enjoy as well if creams aren’t your jam. My current favourite blush for the dewy complexion I like is the Nudestix cream blush in Body Language. This is a matte blush but it creates a nice sheen to the cheeks and is easy to use. I also go to the MAC Sheertone blush in Peach Twist when I want a nice, pigmented but not too overbearing blush. This has enough sheen in it that it makes for a nice dewy blush in a powder form.

New Skincare I’ve Been Trying

As you may know, I love skincare. I have been working on finding a skincare routine that works. Like makeup, I enjoy trying and buying skincare but I do this much less frequently than I do with makeup.

During January I did an order on Wishtrend to try a few Korean skincare products. I have been curious about Korean skincare and as you know, have been using the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop so I wanted to try a few more items from the website. I ordered the Gentle Vita Exfoliator from Skin and Lab. This is such an interesting product. It is an exfoliator that you use on dry clean skin (so after your double cleanse) and it literally balls up your dead skin and cleans off that layer of dead skin. I also ordered the Klairs SPF but have only tried this once (it’s winter what do you expect). It was really nice and no heavy so I will report back when I used it a few more times. Along the cleansing line, I bought the Camomile Waterproof eye and lip makeup remover. This is nice, but to be honest I like the Marcelle Micellar water much better than this one. This removes mascara but not nearly as easily as the Marcelle, even the waterproof mascara. If you want to try anything from the camomile line I would go with the cleansing balm.

I received the Vichy Mineral 89 from Top box circle, and this has been a lovely source of hydration for me. Would I repurchase this? Yes, I would. However, I don’t see a huge difference between the effect of this product and the Neutrogena hydro boost. However, the ingredients list for the Vichy is much shorter meaning the hyaluronic acid is more concentrated (at least from my understanding). It is also 89% their thermal water which creates a boosting effect.

I have also been trying the Body shop Himalayan clay mask. This is a really nice, clarifying, nonirritating mask. I used to the love the L’Oreal red clay mask but I found that unless my skin was super angry, it slightly burned. This mask does not burn upon application and leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and brighter.

Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop: A Review

I am so excited to do this review. Both because I have been on the hunt for a vitamin c serum for my sensitive skin and because I’ve been curious about this brand ever since I saw Cruelty Free Becky do a video on it. They create eco-friendly, basic skincare with ingredients that are kind to sensitive skin.

The claims: “The Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is a serum to rejuvenate the skin. It contains concentrated pure vitamin C and key ingredients directly from nature. Its innovative multi-solution and non-irritating formula is to revitalize, maintain, and transform the skin”. For reference, my skin type is normal to dry, sensitive and easily irritated. This product is Cruelty-free, Vegan Friendly,  Ethanol-free, Paraben-free, Silicon-free, Steroid-free, Artificial coloring-free, Artificial fragrance-free,  pH 3.5 ± 1.0. This retails for $23USD.

The application. This is such an easy application. You need one to two drops and it spreads quite easily. What I enjoy about this one compared to other vitamin C serums that I have sampled is that it doesn’t burn my skin. Vitamin C is (according to this) a powerful antioxidant that stimulates collagen in the skin, which means it basically keeps you looking younger because as we age we lose collagen. However, I have problems with the whole anti aging discourse, but I do see the value in women who genuinely want younger skin, yet we are making these decisions under the watchful eye of the patriarchy so alas I’m torn. It should be noted – wishtrend does not advertise this as a youth reversing serum, simply a serum to rejuvenate the skin. Also fam, I tried to get a pic of the application but it just wasn’t going well so enjoy the flat lay pics.

In any case, the claims are all valid. Vitamin C is a potent substance so when the instructions stay, 1 to 2 drops – use one to two drops. Various vitamin C serums sit at a super high concentration and these can actually bring on redness and irritation. This serum has a few different derivatives of vitamin C that makes it the perfect vitamin C serum for my sensitive skinned friends. The two ingredients being sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbic acid.

The point of vitamin C is to essentially rejuvenate and brighten the skin. However, because of it’s potency, the website advises that you store this either in the fridge or in a cool dark place, they also advise using it up as within the expiry as vitamin C can expire quickly.

So how does one integrate this into their routine? I used this at night and at the frequency of every other night. I did this rotation simply because while it is non irritating my skin is uber sensitive so I alternated this with my Caudalie essence as my skin can’t take too many acids at once. In any case, I started with a double cleanse, toned, applied the vitamin C serum, then I would apply the Neutrogena hydro boost serum, followed by a moisturizer. I’m hoping to add a face oil in my routine soon!

Have you tried anything from Klairs?
