13 By Halloween: Update 1

Ah the 13 by Halloween project pan update. I am so excited to update everyone on my progress. I will say some products were really difficult to tell the progress since in the intro I forgot to take pictures showing the beginning of a few items (i.e the progress of my cream products and my lip products) but because I recently got a tripod I can actually start taking better progress pics which is super exciting.

I am so excited I finished two things in this project (and the crowd goes wild). I finished my Nudestix concealer, I thought I could get more uses but the last part of the concealer pushed into the wood so alas it is officially done. The second thing I finished was the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + B5. I got this done pretty quickly because when I use these types of serums I used a full pipette every night to ensure maximum hydration. My Garnier moisturizer has shown quite a bit of progress. I don’t know how much I love this but it is nice to wear at night and smells really good (not that I should be loving scents in skincare but alas here we are) so once  I finish it I will give a full review.

My Lush feeling younger highlight has gone down quite a bit because I use it to mix into my First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer or my normal morning moisturizer which gives it a nice glow. I will say I’m not a fan of this product as a highlighter because I find it doesn’t really sink into the skin like other liquid highlighters. The Kathleenlights supershock eye shadow doesn’t seemingly have much progress, but I have been using this pretty much everyday that I’ve been wearing makeup but I think it really is the never ending product.  My Coverfx loose powder has also been rocking and rolling, I drew a line on it so you could really tell the progress and how much I’ve used.

My three cream products. Nudestix bondie bae hasn’t shown much progress because of the way I use it. I usually put my makeup sponge on top of the stick and then dab it on the all the bronzer areas so it doesn’t show much progress but trust, I use this daily. My Joe Fresh Tinted Lip balm has been in use everyday yet it doesn’t show much progress. I think it’s the never ending product really, hopefully I can make more of a dent in it my Halloween. Becca Champagne Pop, ya’ll I have definitely used it every. Single. Day, even if it’s just inner corn shimmer I used it every day. It is nicely packed so the progress doesn’t look as extensive.  My solid perfume by lush in Karma. I have used this quite often but not as often as I was hoping to but it is more of a fall scent so I’m hoping I’ll get more use of it in the coming two months

The Revlon Youth Fx concealer was in the project because I knew I would finish the Nudestix concealer. I can’t really tell how much I’ve used but I am hoping that if I use this every day I can use it up by Halloween. . My Nudestix Tinted Blur stick is also going well, I haven’t used this a lot this month but I know I can use a lot of it up so I will be making more of an effort to use it. The Body Shop Lip and cheek tint feels a lot lighter then it did at the beginning of the project. Since it is a liquid product you can feel the weightiness of it change which is exciting.

What have you been trying to use up?

UK Makeup Haul

open-flat-layOh golly, you all know that when I went to Europe I had to hit up the quintessential UK based drug stores – Superdrug, boots, Kiko and of course oxford street Lush.  I didn’t get the chance to go into Selfridges (next time) but I wasn’t really going to buy any high end makeup anyway. Naturally I did a bit of shopping and tried a few items from each of these places. I realized I forgot to take a photo of the Natural Collection mascara but I also bought that. I also wanted to note some interesting differences in the makeup trends between London and Aberdeen. London I found it to be a lot more of a lighter base but I think this could be attributed to the fact that it was 40 degrees celsius so I too was wearing barely there makeup. In Aberdeen I noticed that makeup was a lot more full coverage. I thought it was so interesting because obviously both places had equally beautiful looks but I thought I would note that before hopping into the haul.

solar-bronze

Let’s start with the face products that I purchased. At Boots I got the Soap and Glory solar bronzer. It’s a beautiful sheeny bronzer with highlighter in it so it warms up the skin nicely while also giving that summer glow. As soon as I bought this I literally used it everyday on the trip. I really liked the idea of this bronzer because I saw ttsandra use it once and was always curious about it and finally found it in Boots. Second at Superdrug I bought the B. collection (Superdrug exclusive) lip and cheek tint. So this is something that I wanted to be a bit creamier. It’s a bit waxy in texture but I will still use it because it gives a beautiful glow to the skin you just really have to work quickly with it. Not for beginners. I also got another blush, mostly because of the packaging, from the Kiko store in Aberdeen. That store is beautiful I tell yah. This blush is from their gold rush collection and the shade is 02 coral because I love me a good coral blush. It’s a glowy blush which is my personal favourite formula of a blush.

lush-highlighter

I also bought a highlighter from the Lush oxford street store. It’s like a little brick of pretty glitter. To be quite honest, it’s not like a normal glossy highlight, this is all shimmer that packs a punch and doesn’t last all day. I also got a radiant face base from Kiko in hopes it would be similar to the Laura Mercier one I’ve previously swatched. Since I haven’t tried that one I guess I can’t compare. So far it’s nice, but nothing similar to what I was hoping.

I also bought the Natural collection volume mascara in brown (which was an accident) and I haven’t opened it as I’m trying to use up my others first. I also got the classic Barry M dazzle dust which I tried once but it was a hot ass day so it kind of just creased and didn’t really play well with the primer I used. I am going to try this again for sure because it’s beautiful gold bronze shade.

concealers

The final two items were concealers. I put these two in a separate category then the face products because these are two hyped up concealers that I just had to try. The Collection lasting perfection concealer – I haven’t tried it yet so this is a literal haul and the Makeup Revolution concealer of which I got the last one in my shade and the others were sold out. I haven’t tried either yet but will report back when I do.

Have you tried anything new lately?

Blune Day 26: Things I liked and Did in June

How is it almost July? I just can’t believe how this summer has flown by! I wanted to pop up a little Things I liked and did in June. There aren’t many makeup products this month but there are just a lot of good happenings and good skincare bits.

Let’s start with the makeup: The Lush emotional brilliance powder. This is such a surprise to me. It has talc in it which can be drying but it’s sets my under eyes so well and doesn’t dry them out. Because it is so hot here, this has actually been the perfect setting powder and I find it doesn’t ever look cakey.

lush-powder

The only other makeup item is the Joe Fresh tinted Lip balm in the shade mango. I have been reaching for it quite often and keep it in my work bag. It’s a really beautiful formula and just glides right on. This is such a hidden gem of the Canadian drugstore and is from a cruelty free brand. Bonus! I try to shop all cruelty free but more on that in a future post I have planned. These also come in so many colours and smell like candy which is always a big plus in my books.

lush-celestial

The second item I have been loving is Lush celestial which I have never tried before. It is really moisturizing and non irritating thus far. That has been my age old problem is I will buy a moisturizer and it will immediately sort of burn my skin or create some sort of irritation. I would like to try some Korean skincare brands and of course the Drunk elephant lala retro cream, but for now I have been loving this lush formula.

tea-tree

The Body Shop tea tree oil. I replaced my Thursday Plantation one with this and I just love it. I know there are dermatologists out there and skincare brand founders that are against the use of essential oils but I find that this really zaps any problems I am having with pimples.

My degree! I am so excited to have finally attained the most expensive paper of my life. My graduation day was wonderful, I’m so glad to have finally complete my degree and learned so much about myself and the world along the way. It is such a good feeling to have finally attained the degree I always dreamed of getting, which sounds odd but women’s studies has taught me so many things that I cannot put into words in such a small paragraph. I also had the most wonderful day,  I saw all my friends, my parents, my aunt and soon I will be home to see my Buttons!

20180618_121503.jpg

Doing Blune! I made the decision to Blune around the end of May because I really wanted to challenge myself to make at least 27 pieces of content (so not everyday in June) but most days. I have been loving this, and been loving discovering other new blogs through this journey. I can’t wait to continue to blog more and more for the small community that takes the time to read my blog.

This was a short and sweet favourites because June has been such a busy month with Blune, with moving and packing. What did you love in June?

Blune Day 21: Getting re-inspired by my makeup collection

Makeup. It’s obviously something I love and will always love, but it is also an industry that more broadly has so many layers that I have been thinking about.  I have been thinking a lot about makeup and beauty in terms of consumption and the idea of the fast production of makeup products for fast consumption by consumers and the hype that surrounds makeup. This hype is the buy buy buy aspect and I find myself usually seeking inspiration in new products. I have been finding myself re-inspired by both old and new products that have found their way into my collection.

I recently found myself re-inspired with my makeup as I was packing it up to move. It is so funny the products you forget about and the products that you find yourself missing that you’ve used up. In fact it was a new product that inspired this post, the Joe Fresh Neutrals palette. I cannot believe how lovely and simple this palette is and how easy it is to use. I didn’t have high hopes, I just was in the market for a new neutral cruelty free affordable palette. It inspired me because of its simplicity and I have been really inspired by the wash of colour looks you see on the red carpet or that Estee Lalonde.

lush-perspecitve

This post was something that has been brewing because for awhile I was not as enamoured by makeup as I used to be which I think often stems from the fact that as bloggers (and I’m a super small blogger) we own a lot of stuff almost for the sake of owning it, which I why I have been loving project panning and I’m hoping to start another one in July after I return from my trip. I also have been forcing myself to be more creative with the products I already own. It sounds funny to someone who probably owns one foundation and one eyeshadow palette, but because I do l often found myself falling into the hype of products just to try them. I am not saying I haven’t been buying makeup because clearly I have, but it is just something I have become more aware of in these past few months then I have before.

Recently though I have been feeling more inspired by my own collection because I have had to pack so much of it I have just left out key pieces that I need on the daily until I move home so that is forcing me to use the same products everyday. Now I think a part my re falling in love with makeup is skincare. I have been on the hunt for great skincare and I am still working my routine out but thus far I think I found the perfect moisturizer to wear under all my SPF products which I think has also made my skin look better therefore I can wear the glass skin trend or my bold cheek looks.

This post was prompted by a gander I took to Sephora the other day with my friend and I repurchased an old favourite and something new, and previously in the week whilst getting an essential at the Body Shop I repurchased my tried and true honey bronzing dome in the highlight shade. It almost was like going back to basics and I’m so excited to have done so because it has made me fall in love with makeup as whole again. I was never out of love but I was in a real slump for awhile so to speak with my base products and my eyeshadow and I think I’ve finally found my groove again with eyeshadows. My makeup routine is kind of like my skincare routine, I am constantly evolving in my tastes but am always in pursuit of the perfect capsule makeup routine (which is ironic considering my collection which I adore of course) but I have yet to find those theannaedit style go to products and am excited to find them!
