Sephora VIB Sale Haul

Better late than never I suppose. I took a brief hiatus from the blog purely because my work has been busy and I haven’t had the time to sit down and write. I wanted to go over what I bought in the VIB sale in November aka Sephora keeps having these sales that I keep getting suckered into even though Shoppers generally has better deals and a better point system.

The skincare

For this haul I was very into the idea of skin. I commute, and drive  A LOT for my work, and am in an office, which takes a whole separate toll on my skin.  I have been noticing a lack of hydration and also really wanted to try a super expensive cleansing combo and then do a blog post in the coming months about what happened to my skin. The first cleanser I bought was the Tata Harper nourishing cleanser. This cleanser is specifically a makeup remover (which I use in my drugstore routine so I thought I would do it in this one). Review to come. I then bought the Drunk Elephant Beste Cleanser. Honestly, I love this cleanser, I’ve had a few samples of it and so far it’s lovely.

I then bought my trusty Drunk Elephant Lala retro moisturizer and a new essence from Tata Harper. It is the Tata Harper Hylaronic Acid Floral Essence. Again, a review to come on all these.

Hair Care

After listening to the Emma Guns show with the Living Proof creative director I was super inspired to try the line. I got the super detox shampoo and their famous dry shampoo. I will say, this is one of the better dry shampoos I’ve tried and will likely repurchase. The clarifying shampoo isn’t my favourite but I’ll use it up.

Makeup

I swear friends, I was not going to buy any makeup this year at the sale but you know what I cannot resist sparkly packaging so here we are. I got three items from the MAC holiday collection. I love these products. Review to come this month! I got the neutral eye shadow palette and the Star Dipped face palette in light and the lip set in bold.

Quo Liquid Holiday shadows: Review and Comparison

Liquid shadows are eye shadows, in a liquefied form. They are generally very glittery and shimmery, but some are also matte. When I saw the Quo Holiday Collection in ShoppersDrugMart I had to pick up the Fenty inspired liquid glitter shadows. I was really hoping these would scratch the same itch that the Colourpop Supernova shadows do but they are not my favourite.

Let’s start with the Quo ones. They are in this triangular packaging and come in three shades, gold, pink, and silver. When swatched, these shadows do have lots of pigment, but I find on the eyes each shade sort of just blends away and only has a slight tinge of each colour. I find that the shades in this are perfect for a glitzy holiday look, but for during the day, I’m not sure if its something I’m going to wear at the time as I find the glitter is quite chunky. These also have quite a bit of fall out so I’d recommend some sort of glitter glue underneath.

The MAC Dazzle shadows have a similar vibe, but are slightly more finely milled and don’t have hardly any colour to them. I find these are better for layering and less messy than the quo. These stick a bit better to the eye and a look a bit less chunky than the quo. I have the shade blinking brilliant, that I got at the cosmetics company store, but compared to how these look online, this does not have that pigment behind the glitter that I thought it would. I saw KatieJaneHughes used this one (or one of them) and they looked beautiful on her. I find that the dazzleshadows look less chunky and don’t have fall out but are not my favourite of the liquid shadows I own.

The best liquid shadow of the three I own is the Colourpop supernova shadow (which I have a feeling are discontinued which makes me very sad). This shadow is exactly what I want in a liquid shadow. It has an easy glide-on formula, with no fallout and is basically a shadow, that has been liquefied. These don’t crease (though I need a primer) and the color and shimmer is absolutely beautiful.

I would like to try the Milani and the Stila liquid shadows to have more things to compare this to,  but for now, these are the three that I have rotating for now. If you are wanted a super glittery one night a year (or for the day if that is your game). I think overall, the Quo liquid shadows are a nice topper to an eye look, but for me personally, I don’t think I would wear these alone like I do with the Colourpop.

The Joy of Makeup

I was inspired to do this post by the Full Coverage Podcast when they talked about products that brought them joy. I love all makeup, obviously I have this beauty blog and love product but I have to say there are products I put on that make me feel BADASS. I’m talking the MAC lipstick in See sheer, I’m talking that Carrie Mathison post intense day lipstick application. Homeland is hella problematic, but it gets the joy of makeup totally right.

Burts Bees MAC

I love popping on a beautiful blush and a bold lip to take on the day. It’s not that I want to cover up my face as a lot of society thinks beauty is, but its like when I wear my paper bag pants; I feel good. I wanted to talk about enjoying makeup again. I have always enjoyed makeup but I sometimes feel the release fatigue that a lot of beauty lovers feel. When a new collection is dropping day in and day out, it makes you forget about those old gems and beautiful products that perk you up on a bad day, or make you feel more confident for a presentation or just the day in general.

luxury powders

MAC Lipstick

I personally love Hourglass, they don’t release products too often and when they do they never do any wrong. I love and still use their ambient lighting edit from a few years ago. I still use and love it despite the fact that it was limited edition. This was my very first luxury product and I love all the powders. I can use this for literally every step of my makeup.

hourglass palette

Flatlay two

A good high end lipstick gives me so much joy. I know  the drugstore makes amazing lipsticks, but I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for packaging! I love the sleek black lipstick MAC tubes and the soft matte feeling of the Bite Beauty lipsticks.

NARS Highlighter

Physicians formula products

A good NARS product always suits my fancy. The soft matte packaging and the heavy weight of it makes me so giddy. If I’m being honest I don’t get the giddy feeling from a lot of my drugstore products. There are definitely drugstore products that are awesome, and that formula wise rival their higher end counterparts such as the collection lasting perfection concealer and the Revlon YouthFx concealer. However, this post is about the joy of makeup and the experience. I think it’s so exciting to save up for that one obscenely (and trust me I know this is a whole capitalist operation and luxury makeup is extremely overpriced) priced beautifully packaged highlighter or blush. I love that sleek, black heavy packaging or the gold shiny square packaging that is hourglass’ signature look. This isn’t to say that I don’t love drugstore and mid range makeup, I LOVE the Physicians formula butter line, the highlighter, blush and bronzer are all beautiful and I love the whole Burt’s Bees Makeup line (except the foundation) and those also bring me joy. There is just something about putting those luxury items in your cart and waiting for the Sephora Sale to roll around to get your luxury makeup – or rewarding yourself for running 12 km with a luxury product! (you can tell I’ve restarted my journey)

What products make you feel giddy?

Things I liked and Did in September

Ah, its that time again where I say the cliche, where did the last month go? To be quite honest I haven’t done a whole ton of stuff. I started figure skating again and have just been on the hunt for a job in field! However, I still found a few standout products from the month to share with you today.

flatlay-2

NYX dose of dew

nyx-does-of-dew

The dose of dew from NYX was a YouTube made me buy it purchase. I got this quite a while ago while I was still at school and I originally got it to compare it to the Nudestix one (which I love) but the one is ever so slightly more user friendly. The Nudestix one stays sticky throughout the day and never sets but I find the NYX does set but doesn’t lose any of that sheen.

NYX Olive You palette

eyeshadow

NYX-Eyeshadow-open

I have been loving this palette. The quality is amazing and the Olive tones are perfect for the fall but also nicely balanced out by the purple and neutral shades in the palette. I really have been loving creating with this palette and it really got me out my neutral brown eye shadow comfort zone. I really like that this has a variety of shades for the fall and you can do simple looks to more editorial looks. I am planning to do a full review and three looks so stay tuned for that in October!

Mac See sheer

MAC-see-Sheer

I have mentioned this far too many times on the blog since I got it during the Sephora Appreciation Sale. It is just the perfect pink-red sheer no mirror lipstick that I didn’t know I needed in my life. As soon as I swatched, I knew I was playing a dangerous game with my wallet. I want all the shades in this formula…I know that’s pretty extensive but this formula is now on my top 5 lipstick formulas (would you like to see a post on my top 5 lipsticks because I can do that).

The Marcelle micellar water

Marcelle-Micellar-Water

I have tried the Garnier one previously and it was okay, I just found I really had to rub and get my mascara off. Even when I held it there for a few seconds it still didn’t come off well. Look no further for the best micellar water on the market in Canada, the Marcelle one is just amazing. There are four options for different skin types. I bought the one for dry skin because I tend to have drier skin in the winter months. I literally cleans my skin, I wouldn’t just use this as a cleanser because I am an avid double cleaner, but I love this to take off stubborn mascara because it really gets the bulk (if not all) of it off.

Mixing a hydrating serum into foundations

serum-and-NYX-Foundation

I have been loving mixing the Neutrogena Hydro boost serum into different foundations to both sheer them out and make=slightly more hydrating. I’ve been mixing this in with my First Aid Beauty tinted moisturizer, the NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop foundation and the wet n wild photo focus foundation (not sure how I feel about this, I like the finish but it makes my skin itchy so alas). I really like how much this sheers out the foundation and that it makes my skin feel more hydrated. Look out for a full review on the foundation soon!

Hanging out with my cat

IMG_3528 (1).JPG

I know this is a bit of lame favorite for the month but I haven’t lived with my cat this long since we got her in the summer of 2016. It’s so nice to have a little critter wandering around, meowing, hunting, and cuddling! Yes, this is a bit of an odd favourite but it’s been nice just chilling with my bean.

What did you like this past month?!
