April Favourites Revisited

I have seen a few content creators do this type of post/video. I think that beautywithemilyfox was the first person I saw do this type of post. I wanted to revisit my favourites from a year ago (some of these are the same products) and see if I still like them and if I still use them. This is a good way, not only to see if my makeup taste has changed but also to see just how long products can last when you don’t use them as consistently as someone who only owns one highlighter and one foundation.

Thayers lavender toner

Thayers toner

This is still one of my favourite toners. I find that it is very gentle and has a lovely light lavender scent. I find that it keeps my skin hydrated and balances it quite nicely. It also keeps spots at bay.

NARS forte De France highlighter

NARS Highlighter

I still adore this highlighter. This was one of my first, other than the balm Mary Lou Manizer, high-end highlighters. I love how smooth the formula is and that as a powder, it looks glossy on the cheeks. It has not turned me into the Anna Edit yet but alas I love the glow it gives.

Caudalie essence

Caudalie Essence

This product has changed my skin. I love it. It is a gentle hydrating yet chemically exfoliating product. It has a lovely scent because of Caudalie’s iconic grape water that also adds that boost of hydration. I highly recommend this if you have sensitive skin and want a chemical exfoliant. I put some on my hands and then pat it into my skin.

Lush Karma perfume

This has been living in my travel bag/my purse, hence why it isn’t in the photos. I still love this scent. It is rather strong but doesn’t last all day so I can justify putting quite a bit on and then it usually fades by the time I come into contact with other humans. This is a patchouli based scent and is rather warm but also citrusy. This isn’t usually a scent I would go for but I do like warm scents and fresh scents. I would definitely get the spray once I run out of the solid!

Top shop jeans

Topshop jeans

Ah, the classic jeans. Friends, these no longer fit me. These are real, no stretch, 100% cotton jeans so I gained maybe an inch on my waist and they no longer do up! I still own them, not in hopes that I will lose weight, but because if I ever did I don’t have to buy new pairs … I know my mom would say “if you did lose weight you’d want new jeans” which might be true, but for me, these were such a staple in my wardrobe I can see them becoming a staple as I do more cardio and body weight workouts!

The Body Shop  Fresh Nude foundation

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation

Since buying this last year it has become one of my holy grail foundations. It has a lovely satin finish and looks skin like on the skin. It builds very nicely but also looks lovely sheered out in an even layer. I tend to use half a pump and put it on the parts of my face that I feel need a bit of evening out. There definitely isn’t enough shades in this range. Selfishly I really like this because I have my shade and it doesn’t irritate my skin. I hope they come out with even more on the darker end of the scale because right now its a 50 shades of beige situation.

New Skincare I’ve Been Trying

As you may know, I love skincare. I have been working on finding a skincare routine that works. Like makeup, I enjoy trying and buying skincare but I do this much less frequently than I do with makeup.

During January I did an order on Wishtrend to try a few Korean skincare products. I have been curious about Korean skincare and as you know, have been using the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop so I wanted to try a few more items from the website. I ordered the Gentle Vita Exfoliator from Skin and Lab. This is such an interesting product. It is an exfoliator that you use on dry clean skin (so after your double cleanse) and it literally balls up your dead skin and cleans off that layer of dead skin. I also ordered the Klairs SPF but have only tried this once (it’s winter what do you expect). It was really nice and no heavy so I will report back when I used it a few more times. Along the cleansing line, I bought the Camomile Waterproof eye and lip makeup remover. This is nice, but to be honest I like the Marcelle Micellar water much better than this one. This removes mascara but not nearly as easily as the Marcelle, even the waterproof mascara. If you want to try anything from the camomile line I would go with the cleansing balm.

I received the Vichy Mineral 89 from Top box circle, and this has been a lovely source of hydration for me. Would I repurchase this? Yes, I would. However, I don’t see a huge difference between the effect of this product and the Neutrogena hydro boost. However, the ingredients list for the Vichy is much shorter meaning the hyaluronic acid is more concentrated (at least from my understanding). It is also 89% their thermal water which creates a boosting effect.

I have also been trying the Body shop Himalayan clay mask. This is a really nice, clarifying, nonirritating mask. I used to the love the L’Oreal red clay mask but I found that unless my skin was super angry, it slightly burned. This mask does not burn upon application and leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and brighter.

This post includes items sent to me for consideration, all opinions are my own. This post contains an affiliate link for items bought on wishtrend.com.

Project Pan Roulette Update 2

Hello all! I know it’s been project pan update and finale central up in here. Have no fear, I have some reviews and other fun posts coming up later this month for you! The rest of the project pan roulette peeps posted their updates 2 days ago and I once again am late to the game. This was created by Rebecca Morgan and Alexy.

A drugstore product

Update 2

Physicians Formula Butter Blush. I have been using this probably three days a week and I can notice some progress happening. I really like this blush. It is one of the smoothest drugstore blushes I have ever used. I like that it doesn’t look powder on the skin and gives you a beautiful, dare I say, buttery glow.

A product in your favourite shade

update 2 – no progress

The Body Shop Eyeshadow stick in Cyprus bronze has minimal progress. I don’t use this very often purely because it isn’t easily blendable on the eye. I love most of the makeup the body shop makes but this product just doesn’t blend out easily which makes me less likely to reach for it.

A product you always buy on sale

The Maybelline lash sensational mascara. This mascara is alright. It doesn’t flake but it is a pain to take off at night even with an oil based makeup remover. I think after this project and (spoiler alert) after my drugstore mascara round up I will be throwing this out. Both because it will be finished and its close to expiry.

A product you’ve already hit pan on

Update 2

The Elf Bronzer in Golden Bronze. The pan has slightly expanded but not by much. I’d say that I can expand this to hit other shades in the next two months. I like this bronzer because for my fair skin, it’s not very pigmented so I can layer it over my other bronzer without look over bronzed.

A collab product

Update 2

I chose the Kathleenlights super shock shadow in cornelius for this one. I have made decent progress on this. I use this maybe once or twice a week in conjunction with other palettes. This is a super simple shade that you can use for a one eyeshadow look or as a base.

An Old Favourite

Gotta love how consistent my lighting is fam

The Burt’s Bees lipstick in Suede Splash. I love this lipstick still. The progress is slow and steady. I think I can come close to finishing this at the end of the project, I just have to really focus on it!

Coming up: Products I’m willing to splurge on, Klairs vitamin C serum review

Beauty and Skincare Haul

Alas, recently I acquired a job and to celebrate I may have purchased a few things (and possibly participated in the Sephora VIB sale which will be come later). But I visited my brother and we did a bit of shopping so I want to run through some of that stuff and some of the new drugstore bits I’ve collected over October. I will update you in a months time on these products!

Eyes and Lips

Eye products

Revlon Lip pluming creme

I have been on the hunt for a drugstore mascara that gives me the same quality lashes as the Lancome Monsieur big. I bought the L’oreal Voluminous in Waterproof (that was an accident but I used a oil cleanser so that isn’t a problem). I also bought an old favourite the Maybelline colour tattoo bad to the bronze. I resisted buying this again and have hunted for dupes from other drugstore brands but can’t seem to find one. This is such a simple easy shade to use and have around so I’m glad to have it back in my life. I also  bought one lippie (I was attempting to exercise self restraint) but I saw Estee Lalonde use this on her channel so I bought it in 510 Nude Honey.  It is the perfect (I know I say this a lot) but it really is the perfect my lips but better colour. I really like this so far but will update in a month.

Rimmel Setting Spray

The body shop concealer

I bought the new Maybelline Super Stay Multi Use foundation stick and plan on reviewing it sometime this month. As another base product (on sale for $11, I got the Sephora collection skin tint. I have been curious about the sephora collection and would like to try a few more things from them. I also wanted to get a new potted concealer and have been eyeing the body shop one for awhile. I plan to use this more on days I work versus other makeup days. I also bought the Rimmel Fix and Go setting spray which I tried yesterday and it’s amazing so far! I don’t want to give my full thoughts yet but will update in a month.

Skincare and Body Care

The body shop body butters

Body Butters

When I saw the little body butter set in The Body Shop I just couldn’t resist the little tree shaped box with the fun holiday scents. I love the peppermint one and wouldn’t mind a full size of this before the holiday scents leave! I also bought two skincare bits from Joe Fresh. I am running out of my Thayers toner and while I will repurchase that I haven’t tried any Joe Fresh Skincare and this was on sale so I bought it. I also bought the eye cream because it was on sale for $9.44 which is a great deal for an eye cream!

Have you bought anything new lately?

Makeup Stash Friday’s: Highlighters

Highlighters without a doubt are my favourite thing to purchase and my favourite makeup item. Aside from lipsticks, this category was one of the hardest for me to pick out a few to focus on and attempt to pan throughout the fall and winter season. I love and will always keep NARS Forte De France and Becca Champagne pop in my rotation so those are not included in this post. I also am not including my project pan highlighter from Colourpop in Lunch Money. Also be warned, a few of these may appear in future project pans!

The Warm Toned Highlighters

Left to right: Maybelline Master Chrome, Essence Pure Nude Highlighter, The Body Shop Honey Bronzing Dome

First is a newer one to my collection. I was reading the best in beauty for Allure and of course love reading Byrdie and Into the Gloss, and all three platforms constantly mention the Maybelline Master Chrome highlighter in Molten gold. I finally broke and picked it up (on sale). In the Allure best in beauty the tag line was that it can be applied with a brush and a finger, This formula is so creamy and blendable. This is a poppin’ highlight and I think it’s going to be a beautiful addition to my (already too large) golden highlighter collection. I also wanted to pick a few cream highlighter for the fall season and the warm toned one I wanted to use is the Body Shop Honey Bronzing dome. It is a buildable highlighter and can be worn in more of a subtle way or can be built up. The Essence Pure Nude highlighter in number 10 be my highlight. It a bit of a more nude peachy champagne shade. Again, as seems to be the theme lately, this is a pretty subtle highlighter but you can really build it up to be in the page

The Cool tones

Left to Right: Nudestix Illumi-Naughty, Annabelle Highlighter in Light Champagne, Physicians Formula Butter Highlighter in pearl, Joe Fresh highlighter in Champagne

I wanted to throw in a few icy white shades. The Joe Fresh highlighter in champagne which in my opinion isn’t what I think of when I think of champagne shades such as Becca Champagne pop. This highlighter is a beautiful gem, the brand is only being taken out of shoppers but will still be in Loblaws and Superstores! unfortunately I have been hearing chatter that the entire brand of Joe Fresh is being discontinued . I love how subtle but also noticeable this highlight is. It is a super light white champagne shade which is something I’ve been gravitating towards lately. I also wanted to pick a lighter cream highlighter and decided to go with the Annabelle cream highlighter stick in champagne. It is a more subtle highlighter but because I am extra this will not only act as the only highlighter I’m using, it also will be a layering highlighter. The Physicians Formula butter highlighter in Pearl. I watched a video from Mariah Leonard quite a while ago and she was talking about this was a perfect satin highlighter and that is the best description for it. I love the sheen this gives to the skin and the (no pun intended) buttery formula.Nudestix Illumi-naughty is a product I bought last year around this time and haven’t used it as much as I thought I would. This is a really nice glossy highlighter so I think that I will be able to use this a lot alone and as a layering highlighter.

What highlighters have you been loving?

Bits I Tend to Buy From The Drugstore

I saw the YouTube channel Too Much Tash do this as a video quite a while ago and she was talking about products she doesn’t splurge on. I thought it was a fun idea but I wanted to put my own spin on it.  None of these are hard and fast rules, but as it stands I have certain items in my collection I find myself going to the drugstore for vs. sephora or a department store. My collection is mostly drugstore but I do foray into high end items for a few areas of my routine.  I wanted to take you through a few areas of my collection that I tend to go to the drugstore when it comes time to repurchase

flat-lay

Concealer. I feel like I go through concealer rather quickly and it’s something I need to replace more often than a blush or highlighter. I often find myself having on my to “buy next” list, high end concealers, but when it comes to taking the plunge I always end up getting a drugstore one. I would love to buy a more pricey concealer but as you might know from my Too Faced review it hasn’t been going well (however I may have found a way for this concealer to work and will report back). I haven’t noticed a huge difference in quality in terms of the too faced compared to other concealers.

wet-n-wild-photo-focus-conc.png

Setting Spray. I always have big plans to try a more high end setting spray but always end up going with something drugstore to mid range. Currently I’m alternating between two of the Body Shop’s setting sprays, the mint matte and the rose dewy glow face mist. I can’t say as if these two setting sprays are any better than high end because I haven’t tried any. I would love to find one that is soothing and made with clean ingredients but it is hard to justify spending money on one when I use them so often (I douse myself so I run through setting sprays super fast).

rose-dewy-face-mist

annabelle-brow-gel.png

Brows. I am not a super large brow person, I am a brow gel kinda gal, and usually use whichever drugstore one I’m fancying. Again, this is another product I always find myself buying at the drugstore – like the Annabelle one that is my current fave. I would love to try Glossier boy brow or the Milk Kush brow gel but alas for now I find myself gravitating towards the drugstore.

wet-n-wild-photo-focus-foun.png

marcelle-mascara

Foundation. This only applies to full coverage foundations because I don’t wear them that often. Currently I have been using the Wet n wild photo focus and the Gosh foundation drops (rip these are no longer in Canada) which are both drugstore priced!  I buy mid range to high end tinted moisturizers (looking at you FAB Tinted moisturizer which I love), but for a foundation I can’t at the moment see myself purchasing a super luxury foundation because the majority of what I wear are skin tints, B.B creams or tinted moisturizers.

Finally Mascara. I always have great intentions of buying a brand new high end mascara once I finish my others but I always find  myself back at the drugstore attempting to find the perfect volumizing mascara. I always find myself going with a Maybelline or an Essence mascara, or a Covergirl!

What do you like to buy at the drugstore?!

13 By Halloween: Update 1

Ah the 13 by Halloween project pan update. I am so excited to update everyone on my progress. I will say some products were really difficult to tell the progress since in the intro I forgot to take pictures showing the beginning of a few items (i.e the progress of my cream products and my lip products) but because I recently got a tripod I can actually start taking better progress pics which is super exciting.

I am so excited I finished two things in this project (and the crowd goes wild). I finished my Nudestix concealer, I thought I could get more uses but the last part of the concealer pushed into the wood so alas it is officially done. The second thing I finished was the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + B5. I got this done pretty quickly because when I use these types of serums I used a full pipette every night to ensure maximum hydration. My Garnier moisturizer has shown quite a bit of progress. I don’t know how much I love this but it is nice to wear at night and smells really good (not that I should be loving scents in skincare but alas here we are) so once  I finish it I will give a full review.

Garnier-moisturizer

The-ordinary

FAB-tinted-moisturizer

My Lush feeling younger highlight has gone down quite a bit because I use it to mix into my First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer or my normal morning moisturizer which gives it a nice glow. I will say I’m not a fan of this product as a highlighter because I find it doesn’t really sink into the skin like other liquid highlighters. The Kathleenlights supershock eye shadow doesn’t seemingly have much progress, but I have been using this pretty much everyday that I’ve been wearing makeup but I think it really is the never ending product.  My Coverfx loose powder has also been rocking and rolling, I drew a line on it so you could really tell the progress and how much I’ve used.

nudestix-bondie-bae

My three cream products. Nudestix bondie bae hasn’t shown much progress because of the way I use it. I usually put my makeup sponge on top of the stick and then dab it on the all the bronzer areas so it doesn’t show much progress but trust, I use this daily. My Joe Fresh Tinted Lip balm has been in use everyday yet it doesn’t show much progress. I think it’s the never ending product really, hopefully I can make more of a dent in it my Halloween. Becca Champagne Pop, ya’ll I have definitely used it every. Single. Day, even if it’s just inner corn shimmer I used it every day. It is nicely packed so the progress doesn’t look as extensive.  My solid perfume by lush in Karma. I have used this quite often but not as often as I was hoping to but it is more of a fall scent so I’m hoping I’ll get more use of it in the coming two months

The-Body-Shop-lip-and-cheek

nudestix-tinted-blur-stick

The Revlon Youth Fx concealer was in the project because I knew I would finish the Nudestix concealer. I can’t really tell how much I’ve used but I am hoping that if I use this every day I can use it up by Halloween. . My Nudestix Tinted Blur stick is also going well, I haven’t used this a lot this month but I know I can use a lot of it up so I will be making more of an effort to use it. The Body Shop Lip and cheek tint feels a lot lighter then it did at the beginning of the project. Since it is a liquid product you can feel the weightiness of it change which is exciting.

What have you been trying to use up?

The Minimal Brush look

Recently I went on a journey for an overnight soiree with my cousin. I knew I wouldn’t need a ton of makeup and when I was packing I became inspired by to do this post: what products can I bring that require no brushes. Bingo – it was these ones.

First, I wanted a nice light base as I usually do (yet I own like four foundations but here we are) so I chose my one and only, the First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer. I love this, its dewy but not sticky and blends beautifully over the skin with your fingers. I love that it is literally a tint, not full coverage and not no coverage, just a nice filter for the skin.

Colourpop Lunk Money, Nudestix Bondi Bae, The body shop lip and cheek tint

Next I of course can’t live without my cheek products. I brought along my Body shop cream blush in dusty rose. Its dewy and easy to use which was the whole goal. I also brought my Colourpop highlighter because it doesn’t require brushes and its melts nicely into the skin (and I’m almost done it which is bonus). I brought along Nudestix bondi bae because it has a brush on the other end. Kind of cheating I know, but if you are really going for the absolutely no brushes then you could use your fingers to blend this bad boy out.

Burts Bees Mascara, 100% Pure lip caramel

IMG_2737.JPG

Wearing all the products I featured in this post!

I have been loving using the Annabelle brow gel. I find that it makes perfectly feathery brows and is easy to use. It’s not too pigmented but also not too sheer. Of course I brought my classic Burt’s Bees Mascara and my 100% Lip caramel. I tend to use a tinted lip balm but really whatever lip product you want works for this look. I also if I want to be a bit more exciting like to have some sort of cream eye shadow around that you dab on with your fingers for that wash of colour (can you tell I love this phrase).

What are your go to products for a minimal brush look?

13 by Halloween

So I have been recently seeing some videos by Too Much Tash and Kelly Gooch doing a 13 by Halloween project pan collab. Okay, so I’m not cool enough to collab with them but I thought this was a great idea because I want to continue using up and really focus on products I love. I have chosen 13 products to attempt to hit pan or use up by October 31.

I think I will do a monthly update since these products are already on my rotation in my everyday makeup so I thought it made sense to put them in this project including a few skincare products.

flatlay-open-products

First up is the base products. Now I am notorious for starting one product and then never finishing, hence this project pan so I chose quite a few. First is the CoverFX Perfect Setting Powder  I have this for about a year and half now and it is a really good powder, it’s talc free so I find compared to lush emotional brilliance it doesn’t quite have the same setting power but it does the trick for the under the eye and I’d like to attempt to get it used up. Second is my newly introduced First Aid Beauty tinted moisturizer – this is such a fab product – pardon the pun. It’s dewy, light coverage and exactly what I was looking for in a tinted moisturizer. Since I have been using this religiously I decided to put it in the project to see if I can challenge myself to put a real dent in it. Next we have two concealers, the Nudestix concealer – this concealer is so close to being finished!! I do like this concealer a lot, but am undecided if I want to repurchase it. I have quite a few other concealers to get through before a repurchase comes along but I would like to get this one done because I’m just so close. The other is the Revlon YouthFX concealer. Since my Nudestix one is so close that it will be nice to have this one to focus on and use in conjunction with the Nudestix. Another Nudestix product I’ve chosen is the Tinted Blur stick – this might be a bit ambitious but I really enjoy this and for days when the tinted moisturizer is too much for the hot weather I know I will gravitate towards this.

joe-fresh-mango

becca-highlight

Now for the cheek products, I chose  Nudestix Nudies All Over Fave colour in bondie bae – again I have been on a cream product kick so I decided to put nudestix bondi bae in this project. It’s creamy, blendable and naturally warms up my fair skin without being overpowering. For a blush product I kept it tame and chose one, the Body Shop lip and cheek tint in the shade dusty roseI really love the body shop’s cheek products and have been living for the dewy effect this tint leaves on my skin. I want to make a real dent in this one and see if I can use quite a bit up. I chose two highlighters which might be a bit ambitious of me but I don’t really have a set goal in mind I just want to get lots of use out of these two. First is  Becca champagne pop. I know this isn’t something I will be hitting my pan on anytime soon but it’s something I have been using non stop and don’t see myself putting down for awhile. The next highlighter I’m choosing to ‘pan’ is the Lush feeling younger skin tint is two highlight products too bold of a choice for this project? Possibly but I like to live on the edge. This is beautiful under foundation, mixed with moisturizer, on the collie bones it really has so many uses that I am hoping to use it up

Lips and eyes. First is a the Joe fresh mango lip balmI don’t love putting lip products in projects because it just never goes well. However this is one that I have been using quite a lot, enough to track my progress on it! For eyes I chose one single shadow from Colourpop the shade Kathleenlights. I rather like this eyeshadow and because it’s going to be transitioning from summer to fall during this project I know I can make a dent in it (how many times can I say dent). It’s a really beautiful gold bronze and I’m excited to use it alot.

Onto the skincare. First up the Garnier 3 in 1 rose moisturizerThis is an interesting product because it claims to be a mask, day cream and night cream which I feel is a bit of a gimmick. But this is a nice cream and I would love to use up during the course of the project so I can finally try the summer Fridays jet lag mask! I’m also trying to use up my ordinary products and thought I would throw something in this project that I’m already consistent with which is The Ordinary hylaronic acid and b5 .This product does boot moisturizer in my skin if I use it consistently but I want to get the Glossier Super Bounce next so I am going to make a concerted effort to use this on the daily.

Karma-perfume

Finally a perfume. I really love the Karma scent from Lush, now they have a body lotion which is super exciting, so I want to put a dent in the Karma solid perfume. I never discuss perfume but I do really enjoy it and use perfume pretty much every day or night. This is an easy one to use and while the scent doesn’t last all day I love putting it on in the morning because it gives you that little boost of energy.

Blune Day 26: Things I liked and Did in June

How is it almost July? I just can’t believe how this summer has flown by! I wanted to pop up a little Things I liked and did in June. There aren’t many makeup products this month but there are just a lot of good happenings and good skincare bits.

Let’s start with the makeup: The Lush emotional brilliance powder. This is such a surprise to me. It has talc in it which can be drying but it’s sets my under eyes so well and doesn’t dry them out. Because it is so hot here, this has actually been the perfect setting powder and I find it doesn’t ever look cakey.

lush-powder

The only other makeup item is the Joe Fresh tinted Lip balm in the shade mango. I have been reaching for it quite often and keep it in my work bag. It’s a really beautiful formula and just glides right on. This is such a hidden gem of the Canadian drugstore and is from a cruelty free brand. Bonus! I try to shop all cruelty free but more on that in a future post I have planned. These also come in so many colours and smell like candy which is always a big plus in my books.

lush-celestial

The second item I have been loving is Lush celestial which I have never tried before. It is really moisturizing and non irritating thus far. That has been my age old problem is I will buy a moisturizer and it will immediately sort of burn my skin or create some sort of irritation. I would like to try some Korean skincare brands and of course the Drunk elephant lala retro cream, but for now I have been loving this lush formula.

tea-tree

The Body Shop tea tree oil. I replaced my Thursday Plantation one with this and I just love it. I know there are dermatologists out there and skincare brand founders that are against the use of essential oils but I find that this really zaps any problems I am having with pimples.

My degree! I am so excited to have finally attained the most expensive paper of my life. My graduation day was wonderful, I’m so glad to have finally complete my degree and learned so much about myself and the world along the way. It is such a good feeling to have finally attained the degree I always dreamed of getting, which sounds odd but women’s studies has taught me so many things that I cannot put into words in such a small paragraph. I also had the most wonderful day,  I saw all my friends, my parents, my aunt and soon I will be home to see my Buttons!

20180618_121503.jpg

Doing Blune! I made the decision to Blune around the end of May because I really wanted to challenge myself to make at least 27 pieces of content (so not everyday in June) but most days. I have been loving this, and been loving discovering other new blogs through this journey. I can’t wait to continue to blog more and more for the small community that takes the time to read my blog.

This was a short and sweet favourites because June has been such a busy month with Blune, with moving and packing. What did you love in June?
