Project Pan Roulette Finale

I am extremely late to the game for this finale…work has been very busy and getting all my updates up on time has been a challenge (full time workers and bloggers how do you do it). I am done with this project and am unsure if I’m going to join the next round or not. It starts on April 15th so I have some time! Again, as I say in these posts each time, this was started by Rebecca Morgan and Alexandra Sjosten.

This has zero progress. I have decided to declutter this product purely because it just isn’t something that blends well and I didn’t use it at all during the last four months.

I made some good progress on this. This bronzer is pretty hard press so I found it hard to go through. I love this for a light glowy wash of colour on the cheeks and for a wash of colour on my eyes.

This blush is never ending. I love it and will keep using it as this is in my 2019 year long project pan. I love that it is neutral and gives a lovely flush to the cheeks.

The Colourpop cornelius supershock shadow is one of my favourite basic one colour looks. I have put this back in my collection for now and am using the shade Truth now.

Still love this lip stick. The Burt’s Bees Lipsticks are exactly what I need in my life. They are easy to wear, don’t require a mirror and are the perfect go to shades for the gal on the go. This is staying in my everyday rotation.

A Product You Always Buy on Sale

I generally buy mascara on sale. I liked the Maybelline Lash sensational but it was super difficult to get off. It didn’t smudge which is a huge plus and made my lashes look nice, but alas I’ve had this since June 2018 so I think it’s time to part with it.

Project Pan Roulette Update 3

I am finally slightly on time for this update. I really love panning, it’s so satisfying to hit the pan on an item or get your monies worth out of a product. Rebecca Morgan and
Alexy created this and are such inspirations for shopping your stash. Some of these products have literally no progress and some of them do. There will be a new round starting on April 15th if you want to join! So many amazing creators are doing this project and it’s such a great community to be a part of!

The Physicians Formula Butter Blush. I love this and will always love this. It’s such a buttery (pardon the pun) formula that really glides on the skin. I don’t necessarily think that this shows any progress because these are the never-ending blushes, but I am still enjoying using this.

LOL this has no progress. I want to love this I do – but I cannot blend this out for the life of me. It’s sticky so it’s good for waterline and lower lash line work, but this isn’t something you can slap on the eye and blend out.

I chose the ELF golden bronzer for this. I really enjoy this bronzer for everyday use. It is glowy and light which means I can pile it on and it won’t look overdone. The pan is slightly expanded but not as expanded as I would like. I’m hoping to use this a bit more over the next month.

For a collab product, I chose the Colourpop SuperShock shadow in Cornelius. This is such a beautiful shade. It is the epitome of a slap on and go type of shade. I like to fluff this into the crease and take it all over the lid and layer on another sparkly shade on top. This has some great progress, you can tell the dip is getting deeper. While I have no specific goals for this I would like to see pan in the next month!

Fam. I’m not sure why I keep choosing mascaras to pan because they expire so quickly. I do like this mascara but I think that it is better when it dries out a bit. This is a very wet mascara when you first buy it but I like the effect of it when it dries out. This isn’t my favourite mascara and since I’ve had this for an overly long amount of time I will be decluttering it after this round.

Burt’s Bees Suede Splash. Still going strong folks. I really like this lipstick, it is the perfect darker nude for my lips and is easy to reapply throughout the day. The progress is once again, slow and steady. I don’t know if I will finish this but I see myself using this past this project as it is something that I used almost everyday. Possibly by the end of the year this will be finished!

Project Pan Roulette Update 2

Hello all! I know it’s been project pan update and finale central up in here. Have no fear, I have some reviews and other fun posts coming up later this month for you! The rest of the project pan roulette peeps posted their updates 2 days ago and I once again am late to the game. This was created by Rebecca Morgan and Alexy.

Physicians Formula Butter Blush. I have been using this probably three days a week and I can notice some progress happening. I really like this blush. It is one of the smoothest drugstore blushes I have ever used. I like that it doesn’t look powder on the skin and gives you a beautiful, dare I say, buttery glow.

update 2 – no progress

The Body Shop Eyeshadow stick in Cyprus bronze has minimal progress. I don’t use this very often purely because it isn’t easily blendable on the eye. I love most of the makeup the body shop makes but this product just doesn’t blend out easily which makes me less likely to reach for it.

A product you always buy on sale

The Maybelline lash sensational mascara. This mascara is alright. It doesn’t flake but it is a pain to take off at night even with an oil based makeup remover. I think after this project and (spoiler alert) after my drugstore mascara round up I will be throwing this out. Both because it will be finished and its close to expiry.

The Elf Bronzer in Golden Bronze. The pan has slightly expanded but not by much. I’d say that I can expand this to hit other shades in the next two months. I like this bronzer because for my fair skin, it’s not very pigmented so I can layer it over my other bronzer without look over bronzed.

I chose the Kathleenlights super shock shadow in cornelius for this one. I have made decent progress on this. I use this maybe once or twice a week in conjunction with other palettes. This is a super simple shade that you can use for a one eyeshadow look or as a base.

The Burt’s Bees lipstick in Suede Splash. I love this lipstick still. The progress is slow and steady. I think I can come close to finishing this at the end of the project, I just have to really focus on it!

12 Days of Blogging Day 6: What 1 year Project Panning Has Taught Me

When I began project panning about a year ago, I did it because I felt so, not bad not guilty, just overwhelmed with how much makeup I had that was so old, but also I didn’t want to just chuck it out. SO I discovered the world of project panning. I always had an idea that normal folks (like my mom) hit pan on items, use them up, and finish them. However, as a person who is monster and loves to buy new makeup for science and testing purposes, I was finding myself accumulating a lot of makeup over the 2016-2017 year. Instead of putting myself on a no buy or a low buy, I thought I would start project panning.

I know what you make be thinking, how can this be a thing? Well, capitalism is the answer. Oh I went there. Consumerism and the idea of buy buy buy is always in our faces. We see Instagram ads, Facebook ads, we watch our favourite content creators talking about products that we then want to buy. I was so heavily entranced in shiny pretty things that I started losing sight, for my Marx folks out there becoming alienated, and started using and buying products that are made by rich white men sold to us for 100s of thousands of dollars per year. It is not to say I wasn’t making an autonomous decision, but really in the structure of the shopping I wasn’t. I was being sucked in by the shiny marketing and my sense of curiosity to try the “next best thing”

This brings me to the second reason I started project panning and what I have learned so far. The oversaturation of releases from brands. Yes, colourpop I’m looking at you. One reason I respect brands like Glossier, Hourglass, Nudestix, (not that I don’t respect other brands I just don’t know how else to put it) is that they don’t fatigue you with release after release (at least in my feed they are not the brands that pop up). I was so tired of seeing and trying to keep up with new releases, that as a blogger project planning had become a way to still add things to my collection, but also to be more curated and conscious of what I was adding. Instead of going out and buying everything Estee Lalonde recommended (which okay so I tend to do that) I stopped. Particularly, I REALLY tried to curb my habit, and am still trying, of going to the drugstore and buying random makeup items to make it to the 20x the points if you spend $50 because I was accumulating so many unneeded items in my collection that didn’t really have a place.

This is the biggest lesson of project panning: consider your drugstore purchases as well. It has never been a question that when I buy a high end makeup item, I think about it, I watch reviews, I mull it over and then I purchase. With the drugstore, it is so easy to get sucked into the makeup aisle and the great sales but I was never thinking about my purchases. Now, this isn’t to say I haven’t bought my fair share of drugstore items in 2018, in fact I’d be embarrassed to even disclose the new drugstore makeup I attained this year. I also think that there is a healthy balance as a blogger to asking the question: am I buying this for research, a review or do I genuinely want it. I think that it comes from all three when I’m purchasing drugstore makeup – but I also think there is validity in buying your own product to review so its a double edged sword.

The final lesson I have learned through panning products is how much engagement you can get from people. Yes, I watch first impressions videos and hauls because I love them! BUT i think the beauty industry, or community depending on your stance, can stand to do a bit more shop your stash and project panning than it does at the moment. This post is not to say I don’t love hauling and it’s not to say I’m going to stop buying drugstore products but i’m going to take the same care I have with my decision to buy a high end product.

Project Pan Roulette: Update 1

Ah yes. The first update to my project pan roulette. This is a huge collaborative project with a ton of amazing YouTubers and Instagramers. I’ve made some stellar progress on some items and less on others. It was started by Rebecca Morgan and Alexandra Sjösten. If you want to join just message one of them for the categories.

The Physicians Formula butter blush.  This has no progress – I used it a lot this during November but again, the butter butter items from Physicians Formula are super difficult to go through. Hope to get get a least a little bit of a dip by the next update.

Update 1

The Body shop eye shadow is cyprus bronze. Again, not a lot of progress on this one. I didn’t really gravitate towards it but am hoping to get more use out of it before the next update.

A product you always buy on sale

The Maybelline luscious lashes mascara is really nice, but it’s so difficult to take of at the end of the night. Even with an oil makeup remover, it is so hard to get off my lashes without looking like you are losing your lashes. I’m hoping by March to have this done as it will be expired and hopefully done.

The Lipstick in Burt’s Bees suede splash definitely is showing some progress. I LOVE this shade so much. It is the perfect, dark, rose brown nude. It feels nice on the lips and is a simple lipstick to throw in your hand bag and use while you are on the go.

The ELF golden bronzer. The existing pan has definitely expanded since the intro. This is a really nice winter bronzer since it’s not super pigmented. I have been layering it with other bronzer or over cream bronzers for a bit of a glow. I hoping by March 5 to expand the pan by quite a lot.

Update 1

For this one I chose the Colourpop Super Shock eye shadow in shade cornelius. This is one of the products that has shown a lot of progress. I use this almost everyday under my eye shadow look or just as an eye shadow with a bit of highlighter on the inner corner.

Project Pan Roulette: Round 2

Hello all! I am excited to announce my next project pan roulette. This is a huge collaborative project with instagrammers, bloggers and youtubers! Check out Rebecca Morgan and Alexy who started this! The project consists of 6 categories that are randomly picked by you on random.org. This project technically started Nov 5th and I will end March 5th.

The categories I got were: a product you always buy on sale, something in your favourite shade, a drugstore product, an old favourite, a product you’ve already hit pan on, a collab item.

A product you always buy on sale

maybelline mascara

I usually buy mascara’s on sale, unless its an essence mascara, I tend to buy all my mascaras on sale. I bought the Maybelline lash sensational luscious full fan effect mascara on sale. I don’t mind this mascara at all. My only gripe it is difficult to get off but does give the lashes a beautiful effect.

Something in your favourite shade

Body shop bronze stick

DSCF2166

This was hard because I love a lot of colours. My favourite makeup is bronze. I love bronze shades – bronzer, bronze eye shadow, bronzy blushes. I decided to pick The Body Shop cream eye colour stick in Cyprus Bronze. I do really like this shade a lot but when I bought this I was on the hunt for a dupe for the maybelline bad to the bronze but its not. This is a darker bronze and isn’t as creamy as the Maybelline. I want to try to use this up or at least put a dent in it.

A drugstore product

PF Blush

DSCF2170

I found this category quite broad so I decided to pick a blush. I chose the Physicians Formula butter blush in vintage rouge. I really like the formula of this and the flush it gives to the skin. My goal for this product is to make a bit of a dent but it’s unrealistic for me to hit pan on it.

An old favourite

burts bees lipstickDSCF2174

I chose Burt’s Bees Suede Splash. I really love this lipstick and have mentioned it so many times on this blog. I thought that I would use this for this project as it overlaps nicely with the products I chose for my 12 Pans of Christmas (stay tuned).

A product you already hit pan

elf bronzer

DSCF2172

It took me awhile to think of something that wasn’t already in my year long project. But I remembered I hit pan on my ELF Golden Bronzer. I forgot how great this bronzer is. It’s a glowy bronzer and gives such a nice hint of colour and looks great on the eyes as well.

A collab product

colourpop corneilousDSCF2168

I don’t own many collab products but I thought I would chose the colourpop super shock shadow in Cornelious which was a Kathleenlights collaboration. It is a beautiful matte warm caramel shade. This looks really nice as a base for any warm eye shadow look or any even cool eye shadow look. This is a great warm crease shade and makes a beautiful all over lid shade.

Project Pan Roulette: The Finale

I’m so excited to be back on the blog! It has been a hot minute since I have gandered on the edit. I have been travelling (which was awesome can’t wait to tell you all about it) and am actually about to be moving soon so alas the posts might be a bit less but I’m trying to stick to the two times a week. I am surprised but also happy that during my trip, I was really missing the blog and taking photos and being creative.  But I’m back baby! For my first post back I wanted to do my project pan roulette finale. The other folks who were actually on time did their videos June. They are amazing and actually made progress! You go gals.

Well folks, I crapped the bed on this project real hard. I just wasn’t reaching or loving these products so alas the progress was extremely minimal. I really like the idea of project panning and am still finding my groove when it comes to using products. I am also admittedly still that person that buys products and then forgets about old ones which is something I’m working on. I’m excited to do another project pan roulette but for now this is my finale of my first one!

All products

Category 1 was a product that you don’t like. I didn’t like the Physicians Sportswear mascara and honestly threw this one out right after my last update.

Category 2 was a product you received as a gift. The Balm Mary Lou-manizer. Again this is a fricken never ending highlighter. I wasn’t using this a lot because I have been gravitating towards cream products because of the super hot weather. I do really still love this but wasn’t able to hit pan and will continue to keep this in my rotation but alas the progress was not what I wanted. Also if you Canadians are curious – you can find this on Amazon and at Rexall.

Milani blush in luminoso

the-balm-mary-luminizer

Category 3 was a product from a previous project. Ah, Milani Luminoso, my first youtube made me buy it product. I really do like this blush, but I’m super sad that it just doesn’t perform the way it used to. I did make a pretty significant dip in the dome but I just can’t bring myself to get rid of this even though that is super irrational because its a 7.99 blush that I can repurchase if I really wanted.

Wet n wild comfort zone

Category 4 was a product I wouldn’t repurchase. Well, this is no surprise that the progress was absolutely nil because it was the Wet n Wild comfort zone palette. I literally did not use this at all. I just don’t gravitate towards these shadows anymore. I have so many other palettes that I love that surpass the quality of these shadows. It’s not that Wet n Wild doesn’t make great shadows regardless of the price tag, but every time I wore them they just faded and creased and were looking as vibrant as they used to.

Annabelle Lip Lacquer

Category 5 was an item from your favourite brand. I chose the Annabelle chrome eyeshadow in rose gold. The dip has gotten deeper and I still love the ease of using this eyeshadow. It still performs well and I love using it as a nice cool toned smokey eye with a bit of bronzer in the crease.

Category 6 was an item of your choice. I chose a lip lacquer from Annabelle in Simply adore. I really thought I could use this up but I have been rather lazy with my lips and just using a tinted lip balm or a lipstick. I do love this lacquer formula, but its very nude and you kind of have to work with this upon reapplication.

Have you been panning anything or used anything up recently?
