My favourite brands: Sephora Edition

I wanted to highlight some brands from sephora (cruelty free and accessible in Canada) because I often get asked, what is your favourite brand? I can’t choose just one because that is like choosing a favourite breed of cat!  I decided  to highlight a few brands that I love and use every day.

nudestix

Nudestix. Is this a surprise to anyone on this blog? Nudestix is Canadian and cruelty free, all their products are vegan and they have a wide variety of shades for all skin tones. They originated in Toronto, founded by two daughters and their mother and was created in 2014. If you want to listen to an awesome podcast about the brand Breaking Beauty did a great one! My favourite products are the tinted blur stick, the Nudies All Over Face Colour in Bondi Bae and the cream lip and cheek stain in saint! I am definitely going to pick up more products in the future! In Canada it can be bought at Sephora and online on their website.

Hourglass

Hourglass. More on the luxury side of things. Hourglass was created in 2004 by Carisa Janes (yes another female founded brand, can you see a pattern here) and is now in more than 500 stores world wide. The brand is cruelty free and most of their products are vegan, there is a pretty decent shade range and every product I’ve tried as been beautifully made. My favourite products are the blushes, the Ambient lighting powder and the bronzer! The best place for Canadians to buy hourglass is Sephora because from Nordstrom and their website duties usually apply (Canadian probs).

Naked-Palettes

Urban decay. Okay so I only own Urban Decay eye shadows (it is what they built their brand on after all) and I love them! WOW another female founded brand what a suprise. The brand was founded by Wende Zomnir. They were one of the first brands to dabble with colour in the 1990s and consistently have eye shadows for years and years (the Naked palette has recently been discontinued but I smell a reformulation coming). My favourite Urban Decay products are obviously their famous Naked palettes, which can be controversial but nonetheless they are my favourites. I love the Naked Heat for its warm rustic tones and it transcends all seasons. The Naked 3 holds a special place in my heart and I will forever love using this palette. Now, I haven’t tried anything else from the brand but am certainly curious about their naked skin concealer and their blushes. This brand can be found in Canada at Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart.

bite-beauty

Bite Beauty: Bite beauty is a Canadian brand mainly focused on lip and cheek products and is of course, as seems to be the pattern, founded by a women. It was founded by Suzanne Langmuir.  Bite beauty makes natural (a contested word) lipsticks that are healthy enough to eat. Its true folks. They are all handcrafted in Toronto. They come in a large variety of shades and they even have newly launched French Pressed lip glosses! I personally enjoy their agave lip mask and their Amuse Bouche lipstick in beetroot! I would love to try the lip gloss next and more of the multisticks. You can find bite at Sephora or on their website.

What are some of your favourite brands from Sephora?!

Bits I Tend to Buy From The Drugstore

I saw the YouTube channel Too Much Tash do this as a video quite a while ago and she was talking about products she doesn’t splurge on. I thought it was a fun idea but I wanted to put my own spin on it.  None of these are hard and fast rules, but as it stands I have certain items in my collection I find myself going to the drugstore for vs. sephora or a department store. My collection is mostly drugstore but I do foray into high end items for a few areas of my routine.  I wanted to take you through a few areas of my collection that I tend to go to the drugstore when it comes time to repurchase

flat-lay

Concealer. I feel like I go through concealer rather quickly and it’s something I need to replace more often than a blush or highlighter. I often find myself having on my to “buy next” list, high end concealers, but when it comes to taking the plunge I always end up getting a drugstore one. I would love to buy a more pricey concealer but as you might know from my Too Faced review it hasn’t been going well (however I may have found a way for this concealer to work and will report back). I haven’t noticed a huge difference in quality in terms of the too faced compared to other concealers.

wet-n-wild-photo-focus-conc.png

Setting Spray. I always have big plans to try a more high end setting spray but always end up going with something drugstore to mid range. Currently I’m alternating between two of the Body Shop’s setting sprays, the mint matte and the rose dewy glow face mist. I can’t say as if these two setting sprays are any better than high end because I haven’t tried any. I would love to find one that is soothing and made with clean ingredients but it is hard to justify spending money on one when I use them so often (I douse myself so I run through setting sprays super fast).

rose-dewy-face-mist

annabelle-brow-gel.png

Brows. I am not a super large brow person, I am a brow gel kinda gal, and usually use whichever drugstore one I’m fancying. Again, this is another product I always find myself buying at the drugstore – like the Annabelle one that is my current fave. I would love to try Glossier boy brow or the Milk Kush brow gel but alas for now I find myself gravitating towards the drugstore.

wet-n-wild-photo-focus-foun.png

marcelle-mascara

Foundation. This only applies to full coverage foundations because I don’t wear them that often. Currently I have been using the Wet n wild photo focus and the Gosh foundation drops (rip these are no longer in Canada) which are both drugstore priced!  I buy mid range to high end tinted moisturizers (looking at you FAB Tinted moisturizer which I love), but for a foundation I can’t at the moment see myself purchasing a super luxury foundation because the majority of what I wear are skin tints, B.B creams or tinted moisturizers.

Finally Mascara. I always have great intentions of buying a brand new high end mascara once I finish my others but I always find  myself back at the drugstore attempting to find the perfect volumizing mascara. I always find myself going with a Maybelline or an Essence mascara, or a Covergirl!

What do you like to buy at the drugstore?!

Things I liked and did in August

flatlay

Ah yes, August has come and gone like the wind. It has been an odd month of transition from university to the adult world. I’m still on the hunt for a job but am also enjoying having this time off to chill and job hunt and live worry free while I’m doing so (bless the rents). In any case I still have a few favourites to discuss that I discovered this month and am excited to share!

First I have a very specific combination of products. My Physicians Formula Spotlight illuminating primer with the Nudestix Tinted Blur stick (this has holy grail status fo me) and I LOVE the combination. Since moving back north (and we aren’t even that north) despite the summer it’s still a lot more dry in this area then Southern Ontario. I have been loving the extra boost of glow. Because the tinted blur stick is a literal filter for your face, the glow beautifully shines through and I don’t feel like it gets covered up in anyway.

PF-Primer

Tinted-blur-stick-and-lanco

My wee sample of the Lancome Monsieur big Mascara. I got this for free and IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I really am making a more conscious effort to try and find my holy grail mascara, but preferably cruelty free. So I am on the hunt for a dupe so if you have any please, message, email, or comment on this blog post!

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid glow highlighter in Oyster. I found this gem at Winners (score am I right) and it’s wonderful. I have been eyeing this for awhile and when I found it for 12.99 at winners I immediately bought it. I checked the batch code and its perfectly fresh and no expired. Bonus no one had tested it which is very exciting for a Winners find.

Thayers

anastasia-liquid-glow

I have been loving using my hands for my toner instead of a cotton pad. I have read about several Korean skincare routines and also listened to several podcasts where the method of patting it in with your hands is actually better for your skin then a cotton pad. I have been loving how it feels in the morning and as well notice a big difference in my skin.

Recently, I have had some injuries that have really inhibited that running train. So, I started doing Yoga With Adriene videos in an attempt to heal my sore knees and relieve my lower back pain. I have been LOVING her videos. They are so calming but also feel like a great gentle workout that is self healing for my old lady joints.

Seeing my bestie every damn day. Well mostly. I have lived quite far from my best friend for awhile and it’s been nice having her so close. We have gone on many adventures and had such grand times and we live closer now, even while she is away at school so I’m excited to visit!

Piano

Finally, playing the piano again. It has been a  thrill to jump back into (our very out of tune) piano. I have started back where I left off at good old grade 8 and it’s been such a joy to learn again and play again. It’s also a great intellectually stimulating thing to do because playing piano requires focus and knowledge! I may possibly start painting and drawing again as well because I have been loving honing creative things!

Thanks for reading! What have you been loving lately?

Project Pan Update the Third

Hi all! So as you know I am doing a year long project pan. I never specified the number because I’m still new to this project pan world but I wanted to add some items this month because I’ve actually finished a few items and realized most people to 10 items for 2018 or more so I decided to add a few items for the tail end of 2018.

NYX-Dark-Circle-Corrector

PF-Butter-Bronzer
First things that have shown some progress. The Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer is FINALLY showing more wear and tear. I use this probably 2-3 times a week but I have also been fancying it as a good crease shade then throwing a nice shiny shade on the middle of lid. Second, my NYX dark circle corrector. Fam, I really like this. I feel like I bought it and didn’t really care for it because I kept switching between products BUT this actually is so great! I love that NYX is affordable and has such a variety of shades in their line, as a bonus its cruelty free and I am actually excited to use this up.

My colourpop highlighter in Lunch Money. I really like this highlighter, and the pan has definitely expanded but it just isn’t doing it for me like it used to. Don’t get me wrong, this is beautiful but I’ve been more into my Becca champagne pop and my Anastasia liquid highlighter that this has taken a bit of back seat.

Colourpop-Lunch-Money

100%-Pure-Lip-Caramel
My Covergirl Nudes. Okay so I’ve decided I’m going to try and use as much of this palette as I can and declutter it in 2019. I love the shades, I love how neutral the colour story is because at heart I love a boring brown, but frankly it gets a bit boring. So the way I have been using this is in my brows and the light shade as a brow highlight. My 100% pure lip caramel in truffle. This is actually very well used and I can start to see that I’m scraping the side. My only gripe is that the packaging is kind of breaking and I will take an insta story on my instagram and save it to my highlights under blog because it was expensive so I just want to showcase what can happen to it.

covergirl-nudes-palette

I have also decided to roll in 4 products. Probably a bit ambitious but you know what, I’m living on the edge. I am rolling in two eye shadow products. The Colourpop Supernova eye shadow in Running in Orbits (I think this shade might be discontinued cause I can no longer find it online). This is a beautiful taupe brown (gee so original in my arsenal) and I love how glittery and beautiful it looks. Next I am rolling in the Essence eyeshadow stick (rip these are discontinued also because I can’t find it online) in She’s got the Mauve. I have really been enjoying lining my lashes with brown or mauve so I thought this was a great thing to carry me into fall. Since I finished my concealer in my 13 by Halloween I thought I would add one to this project. I am going to try and use up the Wet n Wild photo focus concealer because it is really good. I do like how it sits under the eyes but I’m hoping with my project I can form a better opinion. Finally my old favourite, interview lipstick Milani Nude Creme. I LOVE this shade. It’s the perfect mix of pink and brown for my fair skin and I love the formula. It smells yummy but it is going on 3 years old so I want to see how much I can use before 2019.

Okay so my wallet isn’t full and I’m not sure if I’m going to be participating this time around BUT I have some recommendations for the sale if you fancy trying something new.

Nudestix blur stick.jpg

If you are looking for a light coverage, lightweight, non-orange skin tint the Nudestix blur stick is the way to go. I LOVE this. I wear it over a glowy primer and of course all my skincare and it just adds the nicest tint to the skin. Warning: if you don’t like full coverage do not buy this.

review of Tinted Blur Stick

nudestix concealer

The Nudestix concealer pencil. Again, a light coverage concealer that I plan to repurchase (eventually after I run out of my obscene amount) because its that good. While you don’t get a ton of product I think this is totally worth the money. It has beautiful light coverage and you are supporting a Canadian brand.

Becca Champagne pop

Becca champagne pop. Yes I am two years behind on this recommendation but my friends, this highlighter is beautiful. It is quite blingy, quite bold, so if you are into the subtle highlight I wouldn’t pick this but if you are into the “beam me up scotty” look then this is for you.

Caudalie

A skincare recommendation I think you should all try if you get the chance. The Caudalie brightening Glycolic Essence. This changed my skin. I know dramatic. However, it’s perfect for textured skin and smells delightful. Bonus it has clean ingredients.

Fenty gloss

The Fenty Gloss bomb is another product I can’t recommend enough. It really is a universally flattering lip gloss. It has a nice rose gold sheen that makes your lips look like glass.

huda beauty

A newer product to my collection but the Huda Beauty Obsessions palettes. I have the coral one and LOVE IT. The pigmentation is unreal, they blend like a dream and have a colour story to suit everyone’s tastes!

Are you planning on picking anything up?

13 By Halloween: Update 1

Ah the 13 by Halloween project pan update. I am so excited to update everyone on my progress. I will say some products were really difficult to tell the progress since in the intro I forgot to take pictures showing the beginning of a few items (i.e the progress of my cream products and my lip products) but because I recently got a tripod I can actually start taking better progress pics which is super exciting.

I am so excited I finished two things in this project (and the crowd goes wild). I finished my Nudestix concealer, I thought I could get more uses but the last part of the concealer pushed into the wood so alas it is officially done. The second thing I finished was the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + B5. I got this done pretty quickly because when I use these types of serums I used a full pipette every night to ensure maximum hydration. My Garnier moisturizer has shown quite a bit of progress. I don’t know how much I love this but it is nice to wear at night and smells really good (not that I should be loving scents in skincare but alas here we are) so once  I finish it I will give a full review.

Garnier-moisturizer

The-ordinary

FAB-tinted-moisturizer

My Lush feeling younger highlight has gone down quite a bit because I use it to mix into my First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer or my normal morning moisturizer which gives it a nice glow. I will say I’m not a fan of this product as a highlighter because I find it doesn’t really sink into the skin like other liquid highlighters. The Kathleenlights supershock eye shadow doesn’t seemingly have much progress, but I have been using this pretty much everyday that I’ve been wearing makeup but I think it really is the never ending product.  My Coverfx loose powder has also been rocking and rolling, I drew a line on it so you could really tell the progress and how much I’ve used.

nudestix-bondie-bae

becca

coverfx-powder

My three cream products. Nudestix bondie bae hasn’t shown much progress because of the way I use it. I usually put my makeup sponge on top of the stick and then dab it on the all the bronzer areas so it doesn’t show much progress but trust, I use this daily. My Joe Fresh Tinted Lip balm has been in use everyday yet it doesn’t show much progress. I think it’s the never ending product really, hopefully I can make more of a dent in it my Halloween. Becca Champagne Pop, ya’ll I have definitely used it every. Single. Day, even if it’s just inner corn shimmer I used it every day. It is nicely packed so the progress doesn’t look as extensive.  My solid perfume by lush in Karma. I have used this quite often but not as often as I was hoping to but it is more of a fall scent so I’m hoping I’ll get more use of it in the coming two months

The-Body-Shop-lip-and-cheek

Joe-Fresh-Lip-balm

nudestix-tinted-blur-stick

The Revlon Youth Fx concealer was in the project because I knew I would finish the Nudestix concealer. I can’t really tell how much I’ve used but I am hoping that if I use this every day I can use it up by Halloween. . My Nudestix Tinted Blur stick is also going well, I haven’t used this a lot this month but I know I can use a lot of it up so I will be making more of an effort to use it. The Body Shop Lip and cheek tint feels a lot lighter then it did at the beginning of the project. Since it is a liquid product you can feel the weightiness of it change which is exciting.

What have you been trying to use up?

Burt’s Bees Foundation Review

As you all know I live for the Burt’s Bees makeup line, I love pretty much everything I’ve tried…except the foundation. I bought this a bit after I did my review on their other makeup products. I bought this because my blogger curiosity got the best of me despite reading and watching mediocre reviews in the beauty community. This review might be late in terms of the beauty community, but if you are like me and generally like to wear cleaner ingredients or simply support cruelty free brands the this review might (hopefully) be helpful.

First, as I like to do with base product reviews, my skin type is normal, not too dry not too oily, just in the middle. I got the shade buff and it is a good colour match but there are a lot of misgivings. Apparently there is a new concealer and I’m curious to try that to see if it’s any good once it hits the shelves in Canada.

What I look for in a foundation is a few things, lighter coverage, skin like finish, and a foundation that melts nicely into the skin without looking like foundation (I know so much to ask).  Because of the title of this foundation, “Goodness Glows” I assumed it would be a glowy foundation with a skin like finish. It is described according to their website as a “Our 98.9% natural, full coverage Liquid Makeup evens and smoothes skin for a radiant, natural-looking finish. Made with responsibly sourced Meadowfoam Seed Oil, known for its moisturizing benefits, it gives you beautiful results inside and out”.

Burts Bees Foundation and Elf Foundation brush

Burts Bees Foundation open and elf brush

Okay, so a radiant looking finish only happens directly after you have applied this foundation with a sponge. Then throughout the day it begins to cling to patches on my skin that are normally not dry. This leads me to believe I need to heavily hydrate (because I want this to work), so I heavily hydrate and BAM it still clings to “dry patches” and breaks up almost immediately. I have mixed it with my First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer (we are talking half of half a pump) and it does add a nice amount of coverage to it and doesn’t cling to those dry patches but again I used such a small amount just enough to add a bit more coverage.

eco tools sponge and burts bees foundation

Now, I have two pros to this product: it’s cruelty free and has clean ingredients. But so is there B.B Cream (it has an appalling shade range) which is way nicer and more glowy on the skin compared to this foundation.

Bottom line: 2.5/5 stars for me. It makes me sad that I don’t love this product because I absolutely loves Burts Bees makeup, their mascara and foundation power are my holy grail (for lack of a better term) but this foundation fell short on so many levels.

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts?

My Favourite Beauty and Lifestyle Creators

I watch a lot of YouTube, as you may have realized and as my friends all know. Surprisingly one of the most popular questions I get is “which youtubers do you watch” and I always tell them my top ones which tend to be slightly bigger channels so in today’s post I’m gonna hit on a few smaller YouTubers. I also think I might make this into a series, like My favourite bloggers and content creators with varying size in platforms. Today’s editions are the somewhat smaller YouTubers that I follow!

Aleeza/stylishandliterate. Aleeza has 15k subscribers Aleeza is a Canadian Youtuber (YES AMIRIGHT). She is mainly a beauty and lifestyle gal, she has great vlogs, great beauty content and a super soothing voice. I love her declutter series, her favourites and her vlogs. Essentially everything about her makes me happy. I really trust her skincare recommendations and I love her makeup style.

Crueltyfreebecky. She has 7k subscribers. I LOVE this channel so much. She is a British cruelty free and vegan Youtuber who has great content that is always informative and fun to watch. She tries a lot of cool brands and also gives you an idea of what makeup is outside of our reach in Canada. I like that she has a lot of thrifted content, a lot of ideas for vegan meals (I’m not a vegan but a lot of vegan recipes are cruelty free so it’s a win). Here is her instagram.

crueltyfree becky

Kelly Gooch. She has about 31k, a bit bigger than my first two faves.  I discovered her when I forayed into the project panning side of YouTube. She creates really original or at least less common content then some of the bigger folk on YouTube which I love. She has really inspired me to shop my stash and pan products. I also like that she doesn’t make me want to buy things (as with crueltyfreebecky) but she also adds things into her collection with such thought and research that I have been inspired to do the same. Here is her Instagram.

Rebecca Morgan. Again, supporting my Canadian gals, she has 3k subscribers. I found her through searching for project panning and she is just such a gem. I love her style and aesthetic and her videos. She always does realistic challenges like her 1 month 2 palettes, and I love her amount of empties content because it really inspires me to use up product! Here is her Instagram.

Ymorbeauty. This is the smallest channel I will discuss today. Her name is Romy and she as a great, well curated blog with informative and interesting content and has just started posting more on her YouTube channel that has 307 subscribers. I love her instagram page, its inspiring for me to be more creative with my flat lays. Go follow her, you won’t be disappointed.

What My Travel Makeup Bag Should Have Been

Okay, so here’s the thing. I like makeup (clearly) and I tend to slightly over pack when I’m going literally anywhere. This occurred when I went to the UK with my dad and I may have brought a bit too much makeup. What I didn’t consider, was that there would be one bathroom, so basically I was always getting ready second and because I was on vacation I didn’t  want to take a long time getting ready because I wanted to be out exploring.

from left to right clockwise: FAB Tinted moistuirzer, The body shop mint mattifying setting spray, Colourpop Lunch Money, Soap and Glory Wonderbronze, Hourglass ambient Lighting Edit, Becca Champagne pop, Joe Fresh Lip balm, Revlon Youth FX concealer

So my original makeup bag was very…maximal if you will and I’m here to tell you I used none of it. So what did I use you may be asking? I wore the First Aid Beauty tinted moisturizer every single day. I found this to be the right amount of dew and the right amount of tint for the hot weather. I also used a concealer, the Revlon one pretty much and didn’t really set anything unless I really needed to which I used my Hourglass palette for.

Becca Champagne Pop

Colourpop Lunch Money

When I bought the Soap and Glory wonderbronze bronzer on our first day we were exploring Oxford street I used it every day because it gave a wonderful glow to my already existing tan. As for a highlight I did alternate between two, my Colourpop and Becca champagne pop. As for blush I didn’t tend to use any accept the two from my Hourglass ambient lighting palette. For lips, I wore the Joe Fresh Mango lip balm.

Joe Fresh Mango Lip balm

It was also hotter than I was anticipating so I found that these products actually worked quite well in the heat. I used my Body Shop Matte setting spray which actually really held everything together, but I’m not sure how much I actually enjoy this because it does kind of irritate my skin upon application.

I am so guilty of over packing makeup now a days, I just like having so many options but in reality when your on vacation it’s likely you won’t be wearing much makeup! I think my thing was that I was gonna be super stylish like all the London gals but alas it was just too hot to wear a lot of makeup!

What category or item do you always over pack?

The Minimal Brush look

Recently I went on a journey for an overnight soiree with my cousin. I knew I wouldn’t need a ton of makeup and when I was packing I became inspired by to do this post: what products can I bring that require no brushes. Bingo – it was these ones.

First, I wanted a nice light base as I usually do (yet I own like four foundations but here we are) so I chose my one and only, the First Aid Beauty Tinted moisturizer. I love this, its dewy but not sticky and blends beautifully over the skin with your fingers. I love that it is literally a tint, not full coverage and not no coverage, just a nice filter for the skin.

Colourpop Lunk Money, Nudestix Bondi Bae, The body shop lip and cheek tint

Next I of course can’t live without my cheek products. I brought along my Body shop cream blush in dusty rose. Its dewy and easy to use which was the whole goal. I also brought my Colourpop highlighter because it doesn’t require brushes and its melts nicely into the skin (and I’m almost done it which is bonus). I brought along Nudestix bondi bae because it has a brush on the other end. Kind of cheating I know, but if you are really going for the absolutely no brushes then you could use your fingers to blend this bad boy out.

Burts Bees Mascara, 100% Pure lip caramel

IMG_2737.JPG

Wearing all the products I featured in this post!

I have been loving using the Annabelle brow gel. I find that it makes perfectly feathery brows and is easy to use. It’s not too pigmented but also not too sheer. Of course I brought my classic Burt’s Bees Mascara and my 100% Lip caramel. I tend to use a tinted lip balm but really whatever lip product you want works for this look. I also if I want to be a bit more exciting like to have some sort of cream eye shadow around that you dab on with your fingers for that wash of colour (can you tell I love this phrase).

What are your go to products for a minimal brush look?

Things I liked and Did in July

Wait? It is already August? How did this happen? It’s bonkers! I did some fun stuff in July and discovered a few products, a few old favourites were brought back to the fore front and of course I went on an amazing trip with my dad to the UK!

My first thing that I did was go to the UK with my dad. We went to London and Aberdeen. It was amazing! Of course we had the four hottest days in London but nonetheless it was beautiful. We took the tube like true londoners and explored Oxford Street, saw the Tower of London, took a boat tour to Greenwich and just a lot of walking around and seeing the sites. We also went to Aberdeen which is BEAUTIFUL a hidden gem of Scotland (maybe not so hidden but its great). We did a boat tour, saw dolphins, saw the university which was amazing, unfortunately we didn’t know this but we were there on a holiday so the library wasn’t open! Then we experienced the pubs that are randomly in old churches and castles. We also visited Stirling castle which was beautiful. The stone was beautifully crafted and everything was super short so perfect for me.I wish we had more time to explore both places but alas we will go back eventually!

Okay now for the makeup. First a cheek product. Becca Champagne pop. Ya’ll, why did I not ever have this before? Maybe because the bulk of my highlighter collection is drugstore I just never forayed into the high end world of highlighters and I think I may be converted. It is a beautiful champagne colour that isn’t too dark for my skin (right now since I have tan from England, who knew) so I’m interested to see how it looks on my skin in the winter, maybe all the more reason to get the lighter shade moonstone?

sweet-peach-and-maybelline

Maybelline-rooftop-bronzes

swatcges

I wanted to give a shout out to the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette and the Maybelline Rooftop bronzes city mini palette. I have been reaching for these two when I’m going for a bolder look and have been loving a specific combination of shadows. The matte shade in the sweet peach Puree all over the lid, then with the shade Luscious tapped on top. Then, to make it even more glittery and grand, I have been dabbing the Maybelline Rooftop bronzes the fourth shade from the left at the top and scattered in the middle. It creates a beautiful and bronzy which is my favourite kind of look.

bite-agave-lip-mask

lavender-things

I have also been loving my lavender scented things. I bought the Bite Agave Lip mask in Lavender and also have been loving using my Lavender essential oil from Therawell. Yes, to many lavender is an old lady scent but I just can’t get enough of it. The lip mask is pretty good so far, I wear it at night or when I exercise or go running and it’s really been helping my lips feel soft and hydrated. I also love wearing the essential oil either as a perfume or before bed because it’s just such a relaxing scent

What did you enjoy this month?!

Too Faced Born This Way Sculpting Concealer: A Review

Okay am I a bit late? In my personal opinion no, but this was something I really wanted to test out and review for you all to give a full review not just a first impression. I don’t have much of a standard when it comes to concealer but this concealer has a lot of claims so I put this buddy to the test.

First here is a description of what the Sephora website says it is: “A hydrating, full-coverage, weightless, four-in-one formula that conceals, contours, highlights, and retouches”. They say it’s made with skin loving ingredients and crease free (I can tell you right now it’s not). This is also a part of the Born This Way range and is different from the original born this way concealer which I’ve never tried.

too-faced-concealerToo-Faced-Doe-foot-applicator

Price: its $36 for .50 fluid ounces of product which is a butt load compared to other concealers including popular ones like Tarte Shape Tape, Wet ‘n’ wild photofocus, Revlon Youth FX, the Nudestix concealer  which are all much smaller. This concealer is almost the size of a foundation. If you want to see a good cost per ounce check out Kelly Gooch’s review on YouTube where she breaks it down because she explains it really well.

My skin type, normal verging on dry under my eyes. I have tried this concealer with many beauty tools, a brush, a beauty sponge, my fingers and the same results each time: you can tell I’m wearing this concealer. Unlike my current go to the Nudestix concealer pencil, which in my opinion is decently undetectable under the eyes and on the face, this one you can tell you are wearing it. It is very, very full coverage, almost to the point of too much coverage for me personally. However, it is weightless as it claims, I can’t feel it on my skin but I can see it. Although I would say it doesn’t look bad at all, it just looks more heavy than I’m used to.

Sweat and crease proofness. Ya’ll this is not sweat proof. When I sweat like a mother wearing this it all broke up on my skin and looked horrible. As for crease proof, well this isn’t a claim I usually believe for any concealer that I use. It does crease under my eyes and that’s okay because most concealers do. Comparing this size wise to other concealers its huge.

concealer-comparison

As you can see from the photo I have the Makeup Revolution one, the Collection lasting perfection, the Nudestix concealer pencil, the Wet n wild photofocus concealer, The E.L.F Beautifully Bare concealer, and the Revlon Youth Fx concealer. The Nudestix concealer is $28 for .05 ounces of product, The Wet n wild photofocus will run you $5.79 is 0.28 ounces, the E.L.F beautifully Bare concealer is $4.00 US for .11 ounces and the Youth FX concealer is $15.99 for .11 ounces. So you are getting .50 ounces for $36 which in the long run is actually cheaper than all the drugstore ones. However, for me this is a formula thing. I really like that this concealer is great bang for your buck but it’s also very full coverage which isn’t always my thing but I think its nice to have one on my arsenal for those days I do want some more full coverage.

Bottom line: I give this 3.5/5 stars purely on formulation and the fact that this was so hyped up, I’m not totally comfortable saying this is worth the hype simply because everyone is reviewing it and liking it. I really wanted this to be my new favourite but alas it just isn’t. I think if you like full coverage concealers and want something that really brightens and conceals your under eyes this is the product for you. If you are a light coverage gal like myself then this might not be the concealer for you. I will say I’m going to continue to use this because it is a good concealer and I bought it so I will use it up. When it comes to a repurchase? This probably won’t be my new go to. Which is honestly so unfortunate because I was really hoping it would be since its such big bang for your buck but alas the hunt for a “ride or die” as the beauty world says, continues. I got the shade snow which I think looks a bit too stark for me right now but I am going to continue to use this because it is a good concealer but it might be more of a foundation concealer thanan under eye one for me.
