Better late than never I suppose. I took a brief hiatus from the blog purely because my work has been busy and I haven’t had the time to sit down and write. I wanted to go over what I bought in the VIB sale in November aka Sephora keeps having these sales that I keep getting suckered into even though Shoppers generally has better deals and a better point system.
For this haul I was very into the idea of skin. I commute, and drive A LOT for my work, and am in an office, which takes a whole separate toll on my skin. I have been noticing a lack of hydration and also really wanted to try a super expensive cleansing combo and then do a blog post in the coming months about what happened to my skin. The first cleanser I bought was the Tata Harper nourishing cleanser. This cleanser is specifically a makeup remover (which I use in my drugstore routine so I thought I would do it in this one). Review to come. I then bought the Drunk Elephant Beste Cleanser. Honestly, I love this cleanser, I’ve had a few samples of it and so far it’s lovely.
After listening to the Emma Guns show with the Living Proof creative director I was super inspired to try the line. I got the super detox shampoo and their famous dry shampoo. I will say, this is one of the better dry shampoos I’ve tried and will likely repurchase. The clarifying shampoo isn’t my favourite but I’ll use it up.
I swear friends, I was not going to buy any makeup this year at the sale but you know what I cannot resist sparkly packaging so here we are. I got three items from the MAC holiday collection. I love these products. Review to come this month! I got the neutral eye shadow palette and the Star Dippedface palette in light and the lip set in bold.
Me at the beginning of the year: I’m only going to do curated hauls. Also me: walks into the drugstore two times this month and buys makeup each time. Fam, I wanted to be a good soul and not buy drugstore makeup or at least as much but DAMN I can’t resist a new launch. I bought some goodies this month in the makeup department (and a skincare haul and reviews coming soon). I wanted to share it with you (to somewhat?!) justify this spending…also hauls on my blog do quite well and frankly, I also like reading them!
I am on the hunt for the best drugstore glowy base product and when I saw that the L’oreal glotionwas on sale at shoppers I “had to” buy it. Curse the optimum points system. I really like this so far and if fairs well under (most) bb creams and foundations. The next glowy product I bought was the newAnnabelle illuminating hydrating base, this smells like a fresh day on the beach (it is Seabreeze scented according to the package) so I couldn’t resist. Speaking of base products I also got the Maybelline BB Creamand theNude by Nature BB cream. I am searching for the perfect sheer base for my life, and these two are so far okay…further reviews to come. I also got two concealers, I will add both to my concealer round up and I haven’t heard much about the Revlon Candid Concealer. A dedicated review to come! I also went out of town earlier this month of, as usual, hit up the body shop. I got their cushion foundationbecause it is the same family as my favorite foundation the fresh nude. Again, a review to come. I also did a wishtrend order (no duties Canadian friends) and was curious about the Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream. It’s a different kind of product and I will do a review on this eventually!
I also bought the new Covergirl Activefoundation. I have only tried this once but surprisingly I did really like it. I want to test it more and I’ll return with a review. I also picked up a few concealers for my roundup, the L’Oreal True Match, and theRevlon Candid Concealer. I also did a wee bit of a Colourpop order. I got onepressedeyeshadow, a lip liner and theconcealer, the new mascaraand the Jelly Much eyeshadow. I really like all of the items, except the concealer. I am still testing it but thus far, while an amazing price I’m not as enthralled with it as I thought I would be!
Speaking of eye products I got another item from Annabelle. I spotted their new bouncy line at the store and couldn’t resist getting on of theireyeshadows, in surprise surprise a bronzy shade. I also got theMaybelline snapscara (which I forgot to take a photo of) purely because I heard thefull coverage gals talking about it and wanted to try it, that and I will include it in my drugstore mascara roundup. I also bought the Maybelline city bronzer in 200, I wasn’t sure if I should 100 to 200 but the medium shade seemed to have the look I wanted. This purchase has no justification – I was completely influenced by Mariah Leonard. I also, despite not being a liquid lipstick lover, got one of theMaybelline super stay matte inkliquid lipsticks. Maybelline also came out with a made for all lipstick line so I got theshade spice for me.
I think what we can all learn from this is I can’t set foot in shoppers without at least gandering the makeup aisle. While last year at this time I feel like bought way more, for February I’m hopping back on the thoughtful purchase train and am going to try to buy things just from my list of brands I want to try. Wish me luck folks.
Have you been trying anything new lately?

Alas, recently I acquired a job and to celebrate I may have purchased a few things (and possibly participated in the Sephora VIB sale which will be come later). But I visited my brother and we did a bit of shopping so I want to run through some of that stuff and some of the new drugstore bits I’ve collected over October. I will update you in a months time on these products!
Eyes and Lips
I have been on the hunt for a drugstore mascara that gives me the same quality lashes as the Lancome Monsieur big. I bought the L’oreal Voluminous in Waterproof (that was an accident but I used a oil cleanser so that isn’t a problem). I also bought an old favourite the Maybelline colour tattoo bad to the bronze. I resisted buying this again and have hunted for dupes from other drugstore brands but can’t seem to find one. This is such a simple easy shade to use and have around so I’m glad to have it back in my life. I also bought one lippie (I was attempting to exercise self restraint) but I saw Estee Lalonde use this on her channel so I bought it in 510 Nude Honey. It is the perfect (I know I say this a lot) but it really is the perfect my lips but better colour. I really like this so far but will update in a month.
I bought the new Maybelline Super Stay Multi Use foundation stick and plan on reviewing it sometime this month. As another base product (on sale for $11, I got the Sephora collection skin tint. I have been curious about the sephora collection and would like to try a few more things from them. I also wanted to get a new potted concealerand have been eyeing the body shop one for awhile. I plan to use this more on days I work versus other makeup days. I also bought the Rimmel Fix and Go setting spray which I tried yesterday and it’s amazing so far! I don’t want to give my full thoughts yet but will update in a month.
Skincare and Body Care
When I saw the little body butter set in The Body Shop I just couldn’t resist the little tree shaped box with the fun holiday scents. I love the peppermint one and wouldn’t mind a full size of this before the holiday scents leave! I also bought two skincare bits from Joe Fresh. I am running out of my Thayers toner and while I will repurchase that I haven’t tried any Joe Fresh Skincare and this was on sale so I bought it. I also bought the eye cream because it was on sale for $9.44 which is a great deal for an eye cream!
Oh golly, you all know that when I went to Europe I had to hit up the quintessential UK based drug stores – Superdrug, boots, Kiko and of course oxford street Lush. I didn’t get the chance to go into Selfridges (next time) but I wasn’t really going to buy any high end makeup anyway. Naturally I did a bit of shopping and tried a few items from each of these places. I realized I forgot to take a photo of the Natural Collection mascara but I also bought that. I also wanted to note some interesting differences in the makeup trends between London and Aberdeen. London I found it to be a lot more of a lighter base but I think this could be attributed to the fact that it was 40 degrees celsius so I too was wearing barely there makeup. In Aberdeen I noticed that makeup was a lot more full coverage. I thought it was so interesting because obviously both places had equally beautiful looks but I thought I would note that before hopping into the haul.
Let’s start with the face products that I purchased. At Boots I got the Soap and Glory solar bronzer. It’s a beautiful sheeny bronzer with highlighter in it so it warms up the skin nicely while also giving that summer glow. As soon as I bought this I literally used it everyday on the trip. I really liked the idea of this bronzer because I saw ttsandra use it once and was always curious about it and finally found it in Boots. Second at Superdrug I bought the B. collection (Superdrug exclusive) lip and cheek tint. So this is something that I wanted to be a bit creamier. It’s a bit waxy in texture but I will still use it because it gives a beautiful glow to the skin you just really have to work quickly with it. Not for beginners. I also got another blush, mostly because of the packaging, from the Kiko store in Aberdeen. That store is beautiful I tell yah. This blush is from their gold rush collection and the shade is 02 coral because I love me a good coral blush. It’s a glowy blush which is my personal favourite formula of a blush.
I also bought a highlighter from the Lush oxford street store. It’s like a little brick of pretty glitter. To be quite honest, it’s not like a normal glossy highlight, this is all shimmer that packs a punch and doesn’t last all day. I also got a radiant face base from Kiko in hopes it would be similar to the Laura Mercier one I’ve previously swatched. Since I haven’t tried that one I guess I can’t compare. So far it’s nice, but nothing similar to what I was hoping.
I also bought the Natural collection volume mascara in brown (which was an accident) and I haven’t opened it as I’m trying to use up my others first. I also got the classic Barry M dazzle dust which I tried once but it was a hot ass day so it kind of just creased and didn’t really play well with the primer I used. I am going to try this again for sure because it’s beautiful gold bronze shade.
The final two items were concealers. I put these two in a separate category then the face products because these are two hyped up concealers that I just had to try. The Collection lasting perfection concealer – I haven’t tried it yet so this is a literal haul and the Makeup Revolution concealer of which I got the last one in my shade and the others were sold out. I haven’t tried either yet but will report back when I do.
